I think that Honus signed his checks "J. Honus Wagner" right? or was it "J. H. Wagner"?

Wagners signature became much less ornate over the years. What card of him was signed?

....the autograph is "j" (or "Y") honus wagner.
and it looks like the wagner autos that i remember seeing...but again, i don't collect autos.
i will post a scan this evening.
it is on a card for quaker puffed rice one side is orange, the other is blue. both sides have "u5" in the upper left corner. the orange side has trivia about the 1907 and 1909 chicago cubs setting the record for shutouts in a season.
the blue side has trivia about detroit tigers having never finished in last place.
the blue side should help me date the card.
thanks so much for the input so far, i will post a scan asap.
regards

His autograph changed a few times -- notably the name with which he signed (John; J. Honus, H., even Hans), as well as the style of certain letters (sometimes his 'W' connected to the 'a', sometimes it didn't; the style of his 'e' changed, etc.).

His pre-1920 ones had the most flourishes (I'll try to locate examples).

Here are a few examples from 1919-1955 taken from all over the Web:

1919:

1920:

1925:

Unknown Year:

1936:

1939:

1955 (this last one realized $14,000 with all the documentation):

The J seems a bit strange, like someone was trying to "draw" it.. The rest of the signature looks better, but the size of the letters in relationship to one another seems smaller than normal. Not trying to be negative. If you can date the card that might explain why the "J' looks strange-maybe signed late in life.

i agree sean, with everything you said. it's not being negitive....it's true. small signature that was forced in the begining. but, it did come with a bunch of period cards. and deception was not an issue with the seller. there was no mention of an autographed card. i'm not sure he knew he had it.

It only costs like $20 to have PSA or SGC check it out.

The opinions here are free. T206 autograph no good, 1936 autograph below it no good, 1939 cachet maybe, Puffed Rice card no good. Rest are okay.

Josh
