I saw he had a couple of T201 double folders listed. I collect these, but am still very much the amateur collector. These look horrible compared to the real ones I have, and almost look like very poor quality color copies of the real thing.

My question is, do fake T201s come on ebay that often? If so are they all this obvious?

Keith, the seller's text can say as much about the authenticity as the the picture. You can tell many scams without looking at the text. This bozo is offering a T206 Honus Wagner with description "As you can see, this card has not been graded and because of that it is being sold as a reprint. Since this is advertised, no refunds can be given and all sales are final."

This seller has run this scam with these "repros"
for most of this past year. He is from the greater
Detroit area and as soon the Negative Fdbks. catch
up with him, he changes his ebay name and starts all
over. I would guess his latest "name" is at least the
10th change. He sells under whatever new "name" he is
going by for about a month's interval. In addition,
most of his auctions are "private".

The scary thing about this guy is that his cards are
very good reproductions. My curiosity got the best of
me, and about 6 months ago I won his 1941 PlayBall
Joe DiMaggio. This experiment cost me only $10.-

This card is unbelievably real looking. The front and
the thickness of the cardboard are very close to my
real 1941 DiMag card. The only obvious indication that
it is a fake is the back of the card. While the back
is reprinted accurately, there is a subtle "pinkish"
tone to the color of the cardboard.

I think an interesting question here is who is making all these reprints? Since when is there a reprint of Hoblitzell "no stats"? Are they homemade, just using photoshop or laser copies from auction catalogs. There have always been reprints of Plank and Wagner, but now there are Lone Jacks! Reproducing vintage baseball cards is becoming a cottage industry.

and it was a ty cobb red background, my first initial bid of $9.99 stuck and i was a little leary putting that in. i was new to vintage cards but for the most part i wanted to see a decent looking reprint so i can compare them to the real deal, it paid off because now i dont buy anything ungraded unless the dealer is someone i've bought from or someone here vouches for them.

also, as long as you dont put a big picture of the cards it's harder to see that its fake, and it seems like the legit guys put larger or better scans, and actually take the card out of the penny sleeve to see it's clarity...and when you ask for a larger scan, scammers usually reply with "my scanner broke right after i scanned these cards"

and i did relist that fake cobb, described it as a reprint, thicker stock, etc....and still got $35 for it...and if this guy sell 25-30 cards for $10, it must be worth it.

As I noted, this seller has been doing this for at
least a year now. But now, he has greatly increased
his "reperatoire". He first started out with about
6 cards (1933 SK Cobb & Goudey Ruth's, 1941 P/B DiMag,
National Chicle Nagurski and 1934 Goudey LaJoie.
And, the winning bids (from unsuspecting bidders)
back then were in the hundreds of dollars.

At the time my curiosity regarding the LaJoie card
took me to his Fdbk Profile and I discovered he won
all 6 of these cards from a seller out in the Pacific
coast. That seller, if I recall right, clearly adver-
tised these cards as REPRINTS. So, even if this guy
is operating out of the Detroit area, that does not
necessarily mean that these vintage card counterfeits
are being printed (or reproduced) there.
