Hey everyone,

First of I would like to say thanks in advance for responding to me first post. im 16 years old and i purchased this to start a collection.. My father told me the card isnt really worth much with the (mk) grade... i would just like some opinions from everyone... Thank you very much

Finally, I bought a nm condition 1909 t206 sweeney card from a friend of mine.. I was wondering what this card would go for if it was a graded a 7 or an 8 (it is a common) and if i should sell it now or keep it..

Thank you,

Peter

and to vintage collecting. I hope you find it fun.

I'd say buy the card because you like it, not because of the plastic encasing it. PSA qualifiers are dicey things; it really depends on the card. A 9 o/c may equate to a 7 or a 5, depending on how badly o/c it is. Similarly, a MK qualifier may be based on a huge problem (like a moustache on the guy's face) or a minor one, like a bit of pencil on the back. From what I see, your card would grade fair to good absent the qualifier. Koufax is very popular and his rookie card is one of those cards that always has a market, so I don't think you got ripped off. In the future, I would suggest you avoid qualifiers other than mild centering qualifiers.

There is another thread about high grade cards; you may want to look at that one in regard to the T206.

I think the card is worth what you paid - though I agree with Adam that its probably best to avoid qualifiers when you can.

You paid a fair price for the card. From the bidding history there were two others over 100.00, so you likely wouldn't lose much if you choose to sell it at some point.

The 55 Koufax is always a nice card - even with those marks. Cards with marks "generally" sell for about 10% - 25% of an unmarked card's value, but there are a ton of exceptions to this rule depending on the type of marks and the card. Not a mark, but for instance a pinhole will automatically turn a PSA 10 card into a PSA 1. Good advice would be to study as much as you can about the hobby before investing a lot of money into it - the "studying" with baseball cards is actually a lot of fun.

Also - be careful on those NM looking vintage cards - there are a lot of reprints out there. It is highly recommended buying any vintage cards graded by PSA or SGC until you are much more knowledgable. I've been collecting baseball cards for over 40 years, and off of ebay, I still won't buy an expensive ungraded card - from anybody.

Great looking card! Nice eye appeal for that price!
Got mine at a show (bought raw) for $80 a few months back:

Koufax Rc's are nice. and recently went up to 1000 in the beckett guide (not that it matters any)

regards
John

Simple card math

PSA--->SGC=no more qualifier

Nothing against PSA but it gets a bit ridiculous when PSA 1 pr-fr get qualifiers.
