Any general thoughts on this set? I have an opportunity to acquire about 1/2 of the set, including all keys. All have extra paper/glue on back, some are miscut, most are creased. Any reason to offer over 5% for these? How difficult to complete?
Thanks - Will

This set was reprinted in very high quality a few years ago. I would suggest you get a couple from an impeccable source and check them against the ones you are being offered.

The set is not that easy but also not that popular. There are significant color variations that affect pricing. Sepia is basic; Yellow and Green paper are priced at premiums as I recall.

I got stuck with a couple of the reprints. Once you know what you're looking for, they're easy to detect, but only in person. Take out a magnfiying glass and look in any of the white areas (the little circle where the card number appears is a good choice). If you see any tiny dots, like the dots that make up a newspaper photo, it's a fake. The white areas can be (and usually are) toned from age, but they should not have printing dots.

Thanks for the replies. Based on the collection my friend bought (Goudeys and Diamond Stars also) all in simular shape and the condition of these cards, authenticity isn't my main concern. The commons are just as trashed as the stars. Just wondering if there is any premium associated with this set due to rarity. Seems like my 5% offer will be fair. Might have to go to 10% for the Ruths and Gehrig just to have them.
