I think that the two high bidders are working on sets. I am working on Boston players and just have to find cards that both of them have. On this card one down one to go.

Sometimes on ebay all you need is 2 people who place bids so they know they wont lose and one ends up paying alot more than they really wanted to.I know ive won stuff before where the final price didnt even reach the halfway point of what my max bid was.

The guy who bid $97 probably thought it wouldnt reach half that but made his bid that high just in case, the other guy probably thought the same thing just bid higher(or in this case he might have known to bid higher if they really bid on the same cards alot,in which case you chalk this up to competition)

I know recently i got outbid on a small item, and one like it was ending a few days later for the same opening bid but i didnt like getting outbid by someone with 8 feedback,so i paid a little more than i shouldve for it.I really thought it was better to pay a little extra than be mad that some new person outbid me

how tough is the Max Carey card? I haven't seen one on eBay since I have been back into vintage card collecting - around Oct. of last year. Also, after going through my old T207 checklist, the two T207's I never owned were Max Carey and Irving Lewis with emblem. I have picked these two up recently, since I never owned them, and thought they are probably more rare than the others in the set, since I had all of the other T207's (with correct backs - didn't get into the wrong back cards, as I considered them errors, instead of regular issued cards needed to complete a set). Thanks in advance for any answer. P.S. - I know the Lewis is extremely difficult, I'm just wondering about Max Carey.

As a seller, you ideally want at least 3 bidders. Two to raise the price real high. The third, even if at minimum bid, so when one of the two high bidders gets second thoughts about his pricing he can reassure himself by seeing that two other people want it.

The T207 Carey is not particularly difficult. Certainly in the more common half of the set.

Carrigan, on the other hand, is quite difficult despite being a "common"-- this may account for the price, although T207 prices in general have been going through the roof lately, at least for higher-grade cards.

Tim
