Default A rising tide lifts all boats

We have seen a 1952 Topps Mantle sell for over 12 million. A 1909 T206 Wagner sold for over 7 million. Even a Jimmy Foxx Exhibit sold for over 25K. Now Ty Cobb is smiling as a type 1 photo just sold for over 500K. It seems once a big name HOFer has a key item fetch a hefty amount, it effects everything from that player.

hobby like the rest of the world is becoming haves vs have nots. commons and lesser stars will continue to fall/stay put whereas the cobbs, ruths and mantle 2nd years will trudge forward...until they dont.

Cobb photos have been underpriced for a long time. That said, was surprised by $500k+ as that photo was a bit blurry to me looking at it in person at the National.

Don't get me wrong, would have loved to get it, but thought price was extremely strong.

Default Cobb Photo!

HUGE number for a great player and photo. I would agree with your assessment JC. Seems like most historically significant photos of players such as Cobb and Ruth (I would add Jackson) will only bring higher and higher prices in the weeks, months and years to come.

The photo was also used for the W501 card of Cobb.

Looks like the 1953 topps Mantle has seen a nice bump if the very recent sales are any indication! Next Best Thing Syndrome. NBTS
