Gene Hackman .....right before he coached at Hickory. Seriously it does look like him, but it's not.

Why is there a photo montage of Babe Ruth pictures surrounding young Gru from Despicable Me?

I’m getting deja vu with that image as well. For some reason I’m remembering the person later was an mlb umpire but I could be way off. But I have seen that same photo somewhere.

Thanks Dennis that makes me feel at least a little better. I have the feeling he was a heralded rookie arriving at the park for the first time. A set up shot for a newspaper.

I am NOT getting political here but it it possible that this image is familiar because the guy looks like the kid in the MAGA hat who had the incident with the native American group. It’s certainly an image we all saw a lot

Except for maybe the cap, and what appear to be stands in the background, I don’t really see a baseball player here.

Looks like a doctor, in a suit and overcoat carrying a medical bag to me.

Awfully young to be a doctor and that bag is awfully big.

Umpire? Trainer? Not a lot of pics of players dressed like that on a ball field.

And a hat

But I do agree with you. When I look at T206s and their original images, they are often quite accurate (even after the artist takes some creative license). If I give this photo/card that treatment there are a lot of differences before you even get into comparing specific facial features.

Consider the location of his ear, for example. In the photo, his ear rises above the bottom of the hat. In the card, the ear doesn't make it to the bottom of the hat, and more hair is visible.

Anyway, the photo still does make me think of that specific T206, but I sure don't think they are the same guy.

Richard.

I do but still haven't heard back from the consignor to get permission. Hall of Fame couldn't identify it though they agree it is likely a baseball player.

Scott, sorry to kill this thread if that's what I do here, but...

The thread title reminds me of this joke.

A pirate walks into a bar.
The bartender asks him, "why do you have a wheel in your pants?"
The pirate says, "Arrr, it's drivin' me nuts!"

Sorry.

You did lol, but I am bringing it back to life. Since another photo ID thread won't seem to just die even though he's TELLING us who it is so I'm not even sure of the point of that one.
