Default Add some Color to your Collection- Red Ball Sales BF3s

I was just updating my few BF3's on my site and have to say I really enjoy the colors. They seem brighter than the scan makes them appear too.

Nice group Leon. I'm glad I am not the only one who likes these little pennants.

There are a few of us, Matty. While we are here I am going to go off topic but not too far. I was looking in the ACC today and saw BF4. A bit of searching didn't find much except Tom B (hi Tom) the esteemed moderator of the Net54 Non-Sports board (see icon upper right of every page on our forum) say they were a bit different size than Burdick said. Burdick said BF4 were

BF4 Baseball Players Names c 1935, about 6 in., with gum or candy. ...... .08

I have a hunch but it's only that....anyone on the BF4s?

Years ago I corresponded on a somewhat regular basis with Gerry Glasser, a noted collector and authority on baseball cards. Sadly Gerry died several years ago. One of the issues Gerry collected was bf3s. He had a huge collection of them. He even wrote an article on them in the old VCBC magazine. We traded a lot of information and check lists. I asked him about the oversized type seven bf3s found in the Standard Catalog. He maintained that they were not bf3s, but actually the bf4s as described in the American Card Catalog. He said that Lew Lipset had also come to the same conclusion. Below is a complete set of what I call BF4s in my collection, or type sevens in the Standard Catalog.

Yes, I have seen Gerry's name many times in hobby periodicals and other places. It's sad to lose folks and especially sad for the hobby because of the knowledge lost. At any rate, as Burdick said "about 6 in." and with names, could he have meant these? (unless we know where these are from now ...)

and aren't those beauties of yours BF3-7 ?

The cravats are another mystery yet to be solved. But I don't think they are Burdick's bf4s. The size is too different. The cravats are eight and a half inches. Burdick's bf4s are six inches. The type sevens at five and a half inches seem much closer. But we probably will never know. All we can do is guess.
