AUTOGRAPHS RECENT ACQUISITIONS
100) FRED LUDERUS Vintage 3x5 index card signed boldly and has also written "Phila Natl League Club 1910-20" Luderus actually began his major league career in 1909 with the Cubs and continued through a portion of the 1910 season before joining the Phillies for the remainder of his career. A tough autograph ! he died in 1961. $250.00
101) GAVVY "CACTUS" CRAVATH Sensational vintage government postcard trimmed to 3x5 in size with handwritten note , postmarked on reverse 2/28/1939 and dated on the front Feb 28th 1939. Considered to be the top power hitter of the dead ball era he led the league in home runs six times ! 1913-1915 & 1917-1919 and in RBI twice 1913 & 1915. His status as one of the most dominant players of the decade at his position places him in the status of a potential future Hall of Famer. In 1915 having one of his best seasons of his career he led the Phillies to winning their first pennant ever. Died-1963 $250.00
103) GOOSE GOSLIN 3x5 index card signed in ball point. Played from 1921-38 for the Senators, Browns, Tigers. Led the league in batting in 1928 and in RBI in 1924. He was inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1968 and died in 1971. $175.00
105) DIZZY DEAN Original vintage wire service photo with AP stamp on reverse. Measures 6x8. Dean is pictured in St Louis Browns uniform. Vintage signature in fountain pen to long time friend and coach Joe Bird reads "To Joe Bird , Best wishes from your pal DIZZY DEAN" because of the slick surface of the photo the pen skipped and portions of the signature and inscription are slightly lighter than others. Photo has normal surface wrinkling associated with any wire photo this old. Member of the fabled Cardinals "Gas House Gang" he won the 1934 MVP award. Inducted into the baseball Hall of Fame in 1953 he died in 1974. $200.00
109) JESS DOYLE Government postcard trimmed to 3x5 in size. Postmarked on the reverse 2/1/1951. Doyle has signed and also written "Former Detroit Tiger" A tough autograph Doyle played for the 1925-27 Tigers and 1931 Browns. He died in 1961. $100.00
110) MORRIS ARNOVICH Vintage 7 1/2 x 9 photo in batting pose from the inside cover of "Baseball Magazine" signed in fountain pen. Horizontal & Vertical crease in center of photo well away from the signature. Photo has been attached to a page from a scrapbook. Played for the Reds, Phillies & Giants 1936-1946 he died in 1959. $75.00
111) DAVE DANFORTH Vintage 3x5 signed in fountain pen and has also written a detailed account of the teams he played for in both the majors and the minor leagues. Danforth was a pitcher on two World Championship teams the 1911 Athletics and 1917 White Sox best remembered as a member of the infamous 1919 White Sox. He died in 1970. $125.00
112) VIC WERTZ & JOHNNY GROTH ORIGINAL 8X10 "GEORGE DORRILL" PHOTO SIGNED BY BOTH Presents splendid Both are pictured in Browns uniform smiling and holding bats. Signed in ball point by both on the light portion. Wertz has inscribed the photo to "With Best Wishes to my good friend Bob Spackman VIC WERTZ" Must see to appreciate ! $150.00
113) WILLIAM O. DeWITT full page typewritten letter dated July 26th 1938. Written on "American League Baseball Club of St Louis" letterhead with colorful Browns logo. Measures 8 1/2 x 11. The letter was purchased at auction and comes with a PSA LOA and small sticker in lower right. Content of the letter deals with an exhibition game to be played at Pennington Gap, and DeWitt declines due to the fact that the Browns were to be in Texas for spring training the next season. DeWitt was a long time executive in major league baseball for over 50 years. In 1944 under his leadership the Browns won their first and only pennant. Later served as assistant general manager of the Yankees and President and General manager of the Tigers. He timing was excellent when in 1961 he purchased the 1961 Reds who went on to win the pennant. He died in 1982. $150.00
115) LOU LIMMER Vintage fountain pen signature from an album page attached to a 3x5. Played for the 1951 & 1954 Athletics. Holds the unique distinction of having hit the last home run and last base hit for the Philadelphia Athletics before the club moved to Kansas City. He died in 2007 but is a much tougher autograph than his date of death would indicate. $35.00
116) CLIFF FANNIN vintage 3x5 index card signed in fountain pen. A pitcher for the 1945-1952 Browns he was only 42 years old when he died in 1966. $75.00
117) FRANK DeMAREE cut signature from "Whos Who In Baseball" signed in fountain pen. Played from 1932-1944 for the Cubs, Giants, Braves, Cardinals & Browns. Was a member of the 1944 one and only Browns pennant winning team. He died in 1958. $50.00
118) GEORGE A. GRANT signed certified mail receipt dated 1974. measures 3x5 and originates from the Henry West collection. Signed in pencil Grant was a non-signer and tough autograph. Played for the 1923-25 Browns, 1927-29 Cleveland, 1931 Pirates he died in 1986. $50.00


The Karl Wingler collection , A Baseball Historian In the 1940's and 1950's would send out one page questionaires to former players confirming personal information regarding lives after baseball and their careers. Requesting their signature at conclusion. Each measures 8 1/2 x 11 and comes with original mailing envelope. All of the questionaires are completed by the player and signed with their full names
120) WILLIAM FRIEL Dated November 14th 1947. Original member of the St Louis Browns he played in 1901 for the Milwaukee Brewers and remained with the club in 1902 & 1903 when they became the Browns. He died in 1959. $150.00
121) CARL FISCHER Dated May 18th 1950. Signed twice A pitcher from 1930-37 for the White Sox, Senators, Cleveland, Tigers and Browns he died in 1963. $150.00
122) VERDO ELMORE dated Nov 5th 1951. Elmore played for the 1924 Browns. He died in 1969. $75.00
123) CHESTER FALK dated Jan 11th, 1954. Brother of major leaguer Bibb Falk, he played for the Browns 1925-27 and died in 1982. $50.00
124) HOMER EZZELL dated March 5th 1951. Played 3rd base for the 1923 Browns and 1924-25 Red Sox. He died in 1976. $50.00
125) PROCOPIO HERRERA Dated March 13th 1950. Pitched in 3 games for the 1951 Browns before returning to Mexico where he died in 2007. $75.00
