Default Who has "lost" cards?!

So this past weekend I decided to re-organize my collection...to try to get a better handle on where everything is...and I'm going through my e94 set...which I had separated into cards needing upgrades and the rest.

And so I decide to put them all together again in checklist order...and I'm looking through my illuminated magnifying glass to read the checklist because my vision is getting so bad.

Crawford...where the hell did crawford go? WTF...how could crawford be missing. I flip through all 38 or so cards...once, twice...3-4-5 times SO I finish and decide that I've somehow lost crawford and I'd better replace him stat!

Unfortunately replacing an e94 crawford isn't as easy as finding any T206 on ebay...there just arent any available right now.

So I add it to my wanted list and move on!

Thankfully this morning I found him...hiding under the couch...what a bugger!!!!!!

I have had quite a few cards in Ultrapro toploaders wedge themselves between an SGC slab's protruding borders on back. And I have missed them for days, weeks and months until flipping through the slabbed cards again.

I'm glad you found him, Pete. If it were me, I'd have gone crazy looking for him.

Luckily, the cards I've lost haven't been anything that substantial. When I moved to Texas from Wisconsin, I apparently lost one of the boxes with some of my favorite cards. I had a pristine 1981 Topps Joe Montana, an '84 Topps Dan Marino, an '86 Topps Jerry Rice, a 1972 Topps in action Clemente, a '72 Topps in Action Hank Aaron that was autographed. Nothing real expensive, but they had a lot of sentimental value to me. The Montana one still irks me though, because years before this whole third party grading thing took off, that was a PSA 10 in the waiting. It was the cleanest football card I ever had. Perfect white borders, dead centered, sharp edges and corners. Now that I'm collecting again, I'll have to replace it. I'm sure I'll grumble about it.

Of course, that doesn't compare to the cards my grandmother threw out. "Oh, yeah", my dad always tells me, "I had Willie Mays, and Ernie Banks, Hank Aaron and Mickey Mantle".

Thanks, Grandma Ann

Default I've had one missing for more than 10 years now

My wife gave me portraits of Tinker/Ever/Chance for a 10th wedding anniversary gift 15 years ago. I already had a Tinker, and the one I already had was much nicer, but I kept the dupe. It made the move to Omaha 10 years ago, I remember unpacking it. Haven't seen it since. No clue where to look after this long. Pretty sure it is not under the couch.

Well, I can't work long hours, and would have to take frequent breaks to give the ol' bones a rest, but if you guys need a butler that might occasionally spend an inordinate amount of time dusting where your baseball card collections are on display, then I'm your huckleberry. I'm as honest as they come, so have no fear about the safety of your valuables. But I make no promises as to the occasional drooling that might occur.

I'll make a note to never sort cards while sitting on the couch. Seems they are the thieves of the furniture world...

Default lost one

I soaked five real dirty and nasty Tolstoi's yesterday. I did them one at a time and them placed each one onto a cutting board to press/dry. I started with five cards and now have only four drying????

I know I didn't dump it down the drain. I suspect I set it down somewhere while maneuvering and replacing copy paper over the cards, but cant seem to locate it anywhere!

I looked in all the obvious places, and on the floor around my work area. I though it might have stuck to some of the drying paper and be in the trash can, but it wasnt on top. Next step is to empty the trash can one peice at a time!

oh well, lucklily they are low end condition and got them for a good price.

I will check under the couch... just to be sure

I know the feeling of losing a card, especially if its one that I was suppose to ship to a winning bidder. I would go thru my inventory hoping that I would find it even though I already looked in the same place 10 times before. Then it would turn out that I shipped it to the wrong bidder. Happened to me 3 times over 13 years. Luckily, I was able to get everything worked out.

Pete,
I lost that card a while back. I don't know how it ended up under your couch, but please send it back to me asap.

Thanks,
Rick

I used to carry a t206 magee portrait card in my wallet...this was probably in the early nineties...to show to people. And I liked it because it reminded me of the magie error card...that card got lost over the years never to be found!!!

I keep my cards in a plastic storage container with a snap-on lid. I keep these containers in a closet. This way, my cards won't go AWOL in the middle of the night when magical things have been known to happen.

Default Lost Cards

Somehow I misplaced a T206 Cy Young that I purchased from a board member.....I received several packages of cards that day. I believe I threw the Young away with the packaging.

I still can't believe I did that.....and still impulsively check between the liner & trash can.

Looking for my N559 (Governors) type card in ALL the places I kept cards. Tried again. Finally a third time in excruciating detail going slowly through everything.....no luck.

About a week later I walked out of the closet and saw it laying in the middle of the bedroom floor, raw and undamaged. Still can't figure that one out.

Not really lost, but board member (Christopher Herman) and I made a significant trade of strip cards about a year ago. I sent him 12-15 w514's, and accidentally included a Ty Cobb w514 which we did not discuss in the sale.

A week later Chris called me and said "your package arrived today, but a Cobb was included we did not discuss." OOPS! I probably would not have noticed it was gone. The card was returned, thanks to his honesty. The card's now in the safe, unless I made another shipping error.

Thanks again Chris, Ty!

There are some really decent people on this board. Wish the rest of the world was half as honest.
