102) KENESAW MOUNTAIN LANDIS autograph attached to a 3x5 index card. Autograph originates from a 1932 "Waterman's" Autograph Book. For six months in the early 1930's the Waterman fountain pen company ran a contest for boys and girls. Each entrant was instructed how to write to and obtain signatures of various notables of the day and send it to the company to qualify for a prize. The book that this autograph originates from was sold intact in January 2012 and once belonged to a young man named William Tierney of Weston West Virginia. There was a total of over 300 autographs that had been clipped and attached in his book. This is one of those signatures. Baseball's 1st commissioner 1920-1944. Best remembered for his handling of the 1919 Black Sox scandal which restored public confidence in the game. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1944 by special vote months after his death that same year. $250.00
103) RING LARDNER autograph attached to a 3x5 index card. Extremely RARE autograph ! Sports writer and journalist who while writing for the Chicago Tribune became best remembered as one of the first to question the outcome of the 1919 World Series and bring the "fix" to light. He died in 1933 at the age of only 48 years old from tuberculosis. Those collectors assembling autographs related to the 1919 World Series will find the acquisition of a Lardner autograph one of the most difficult in their pursuits. This is one of the first I have offered in many years. $650.00
104) BABE RUTH AUTOGRAPH SIGNED FOR GEORGE WRIGHT'S SON ! Portion of a postcard measures 2 1/2 x 1 signed in pencil Was originally displayed in a frame and signature is a little light. Comes with letter of provenance from George Wright's Great Grandson. Autograph was obtained in person in 1935 in the Boston Braves locker room by George Wright himself. Truly unique & ironic in that the autograph was signed FOR the man most responsible for the game of baseball as we know it today BY the man that would save the game of baseball after the 1919 World Series fix had tranished it and transform it again into "Our National Pastime". Amazing letter that accompanies the item reads in part " During my childhood I often heard my father repeat the story about how his grandfather had taken him into the Boston Braves locker room to meet Babe Ruth in 1935. My father said it was sad to see the Babe hobble around on the field but was nonetheless a thrill to meet him. This opportunity was possible because his Grandfather George Wright had a pass to all Braves games and was still highly regarded as one of the best players of his era. In the locker room the Babe signed a baseball and the back of a postcard. Being a boy my father took the ball home and played with it. This ruined the signature but fortunately he slipped the postcard into his autograph book. My father gave the autograph to me after Henry Aaron broke the Babe's home run record" $1,500.00
105) GEORGE WRIGHT AUTOGRAPHED BOOK 1892 "AMERICAN FOOTBALL by WALTER CAMP" FROM HIS PERSONAL LIBRARY Signed boldly in pencil inside the book on first blank page "Geo. Wright 1905" Hardcover published by "Harper Brothers" 1892. The Book is over 212 pages including period advertisements in the back and measures aprox 5x7. Many photos inside of early football stars. The page that follows the autographed page has the "Wright & Ditson Sporting Goods Company" stamp applied to the page. Exterior of jacket exhibits some water damage and wear. All pages are intact with original binding but several in the begining of the book are slightly loose. Book is in fair to good condition overall and comes with a letter of provenance from Jim Stinson Sports. $1,500.00
106) ROGER MARIS 1957 ROOKIE AUTOGRAPH Album page removed from a date specific 1957 Autograph book , A young Maris was then playing in his first major league season for Cleveland. Page is also signed by team mate Ken Kuhn but is well away from the Maris signature on the page which could be displayed seperately. The reverse is signed by Rocky Colavito, Bob Avila & Dick Williams. Maris would eventually become a seven time all star and twice winner of the "Most Valuable Player" Award in 1960 and 1961 while playing for the Yankees. His record breaking 61 home runs in 1961 was to become one of the most coveted records in sports history. He died in 1985. $650.00
107) MEL OTT autographed Album book page signed in 1957. Fine ink signature in the center of the page which is also signed by Jim Small and Dave Philly , the reverse is signed by Al Kaline, Bill Tuttle, Ray Boone and Frank House. The Ott signature is well away from the others on the page and could be displayed seperately. Ott was the first National League player to break the 500 home run barrier retiring with 511 lifetime round trippers , he led the league in home runs six times. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1951 and died in an auto accident in 1958. $550.00
108) MICKEY MANTLE & BILLY MARTIN Autographed portion of a postcard from the "Kavakos Night Club" in Washington DC. Measures 3 x 3 1/2 and is attached to a larger 4x6 autograph album page. Inscribed "To Evanglene" , Vintage 1957 signatures !!!! Unique in that both Martin and Mantle were friends both on and off the field and it was that friendship and their infamous bar room escapades that would lead to Billy Martin's first being fired by the Yankees. Signed IN-PERSON when Mantle was at the peak of his powers only 6 years after his rookie season. Great association item ! $550.00

This unique and exceptional offering features some of the most prolific sports icons of the 1930's and recalls a night when some 900 guests celebrated the accomplishments of these lauded athletes. Babe Ruth the man of the hour recieved a silver plaque from the President of the New York chapter, Daniel M. Daniel honoring him as "The Man Considered to Have rendered outstanding service to baseball during his connection to the game" The Bambino himself even made an appearence on stage and and enacted a burlesque of his training routine. This annual night was a heady gathering of heavyweights from all walks of the professional athletic arena, making possible this truly one of a kind sports relic. Made even more interesting by the attendence of Notre Dame icon Knute Rockne in what would prove to be one of his last public appearences before his untimely death.
