Default If you came across some extra dough...

Would you increase the quality or quantity of your collection i.e. buy a couple keystone cards or hoard more lots, partial sets, etc.???

For me, the "smarter" thing would be to buy a few keepers but the more exciting thing would be to spread out the wealth and buy a larger spread of stuff

I've pretty much reached my goals, so I would look for some really special items. Perhaps a T206 Walter Johnson with a Red Hindu back, for example.

Oh, that sounds nice.

I've got a Birthday coming up.

I would also like a Rose Co WaJo, and a Bender Drum.

Now that's a nice card.

I'd do the same, a few key cards....Plank, Cobb Lenox/RH or a really top shelf error.

I tend to be more of a quantity guy. For me, overall, having ten $100 cards is way more fun than having one $1k card..... but I realize I may be in the minority on this one.

I say that I prefer this method but I'm not sure if it is just the fact that I never save up enough money to buy something really nice.

If I just happened to find some money, I'd like to put together some relatively inexpensive set, something not too easy, but not impossible. I like the design of the C46 cards and only have one, so maybe that set

t200 set! Then design/build a display! Then make room for it on the wall. Then hang it and put back up the stuff I took down to make room for it. Then spend all day looking at it...Im ready for my money now.

I would probably go with a T206 Plank. Would love to have one of the ones that have been going in the 60K range in recent auctions. The ones in the $20-25K are just too rough.

If I was looking to spread out an investment for a two year horizon, I'd probably buy gold or silver, both of which are IMO very cheap right now...but if I knew that much I'd be rich by now.

I like the Dahlen and Lundgren T206 variations at a decent price and high grade.

Define "some extra money". Are you talking about a few thousand (ie 3K - 5K) or (30K - 50 K) or (300K - 500K) ?

Pat, I am a quality guy, so if it was found money, I would by myself something really special, that I wouldn't normally spend the money on.

A Magie would be nice, a Plank would be excellent, a.... I woud settle for completing the Monster (518, that is...). Free up cash for chasing high end 201's....build a few bamboo rods, "eat a lot of peaches..." . I guess the wife would want me to replace my old wheels...nah, will take the Magie or Plank...

Key card(s). I'll figure it out when the time comes Right now I am satisfied with my ubiquitous HOFer flotsam and jetsam. I'd want something(s) high dollar cool that I normally couldn't afford.

I think you should increase quantity. Commons going from $.50 to $1 each means you doubled, and you could buy a couple thousand nice commons pretty solid priced atm. Quality is pretty surefire but will only be 20-30-50%, commons could be much better on a per card basis for what is there.

All depends on quantity of money and let's assume I don't need it for other life needs, I'd probably do both - increase quality AND quantity. Again, depends on amount and other factors.

My goal of 100 different St Louis type cards would turn into a goal of 100 different St Louis HOF types.

That would mean that you need the Lou Brock rookie card with him in Cubbie blues. LOL

I should of clarified pre-war type collection. Hard enough time seeing Hornsby cards not in a St Louis Uni.

Depends on how much dough, of course.

I'd love to break some unopened boxes from the late 70's and 1980. And then sort out the cards by team, player, and position - old school style.

Man, I miss that part of collecting...
