Default PSA cant get it right!!!!

PSA cant get it right. The 1933 Goudey sports Kings Ty Cobb I sold, the person I sold it to sent it to PSA and they told him it was altered stock but I know for fact that is impossible because my grandfather pulled that card out of a pack himself and the card was passed down to my dad then to me. I think PSA is playing the resub game. I will refund the person if they want but it PISSES me off SO MUCH that PSA play's these games. I am even more angry because I know the card is not altered or trimmed in anyway. I will never do business with PSA again

I would send it to SGC, when it grades at ...what??? a 6 or so, take a pic and send it to PSA, lol. Also maybe the buyer will want the card again.

Also...REAL nice card, and comming from your grandfather and then your dad now to you, is awesome.

Default They are not playing any game

They make judgement calls and in the graders opinion there was an alteration. Are you sure grandpa never erased a mark or rubbed down a corner or some other technical alteration that was not done in malice but was discoverable in the grading room? I would also much rather have a company reject a good card, if this actually is, then holder a bad card. Not everything is some vast conspiracy when something does not go your way. Sometimes it's just bad luck or a tough break. This idea that joe or someone tells people to reject a card the first time it comes in is laughable. Would love to see the card in person may be able to tell you what they are seeing that concerns them. I personally would send back in, not because of some conspiracy but because opinions vary from person to person.

I'm sorry about what happened to you at PSA. Overall it's a beautiful card. You sent a nice blow-up scan of the card. Looking at the front of the card, the top edge looks great. I think PSA's complaint is that if you look at the front bottom edge of the card, the left side to the middle of the card looks different than if you look at the card from the middle to the right side of the card. I think PSA has the idea that the bottom edge going to the right side of the card could be altered.

It's easier to see if you use a high pass filter on photoshop, but it looks like somebody used a white marker or something similar on the top edge of the back of the card, in the center, above where it says "- No. 1 -"

Beautiful card, but if it is white-out or something like that then it probably gets an Authentic.

I see what you're seeing but, to me, that looks like paper loss (border chipping).

There is nothing wrong with the card. PSA just missed the boat on this one. GO SGC.

Looks like border chipping to me also. John, if you are in any position to keep the card you should. There is such a nice history with the piece, and memories that go with it when you look at it and have it in your posession. I've had items that I have regretted ( personal memories ) selling and would give anything to get them back.

yes its border chiping or slight edge paper loss not sure how that happened over the years or if it came out of the pack like that. I still think the card should grade a 6 or 7

its probably a sign from gramps up above looking down on me angry that I sold the card. I will be refunding the person and getting it back I will send it to either SGC or BVG and share the grading results here.

Default There are things on back I don't like

Along with one of the edges. I am not referring to the paper loss at the top. Again I'm going off scan and the things I'm seeing I may discount in person. If this card ends up in a holder does not mean the original assessment was not correct. I'd still rather see in person to give a 100% opinion. I would not be shocked if either removed from scrapbook of som sort or had something erased from back. These concerns could be due to the scans settings or glare.

Default Keep it

Perhaps this is a sign that you were meant to keep the card afterall.

I'd personally keep any card my grandfather passed down through the family.

There is a saying in the business world that the third generation will loose the company, either by driving it to the ground or selling it, basically not owning it anymore, I guess the same hold thru for baseball cards.

I've heard, "Shirtsleeves to shirtsleeves in three generations..."

Nice Cobb card, whatever you decide.

Another possibility is bleaching. Someone may have touched up the top edge or a small spot with a little clorox. If PSA picked up on it under black light they won't grade.

If you are going to attempt the grading angle again, I'd go with SGC over BVG. if you do, it will be interesting to see what they say, and how it grades out. Once graded by SGC, I would most definitely keep it if I were you.

Top edge chipping on 1933 Goudeys is common and a sign that they have not been trimmed. Smooth top edges are the ones to be leery of.

Just because you, your father, or your grandfather says it's legit doesn't make it so. Also, wouldn't waste your time with TPGs other than PSA at this point in the game.

Just because PSA says "altered stock", doesn't make that so either. They make mistakes and miss judgement calls every business day and I'm a fan of PSA myself.

You could actually send the exact same card to PSA again. Next time it might get a 7.

Here's what you do - start sending a lot of cards into PSA for grading, become one of their best customers and I'm sure they will regrade this one numerically. .. perhaps even a 10 if you send them enough business
