SOLD: 1937 Ciudad Trujillo Team Photo w/Satchel Paige & Lazaro Salazar

Up for sale tonight is this incredibly rare photo picturing Negro League greats, Satchel Paige, Lazaro Salazar & Rodolfo Fernandez. This group represents an early season version of the 1937 Ciudad Trujillo team that ultimately went on to win the championship that season in the Dominican Republic. Later in the season, Josh Gibson & Cool Papa Bell joined the team making it one of the all-time powerhouses in Latin Baseball history.

Recently, Hake's Auction house sold two team photos picturing the championship 1937 Ciudad Trujillo team with Paige, Gibson, & Bell pictured and the prices realized were $32,000 and $20,000. This exact photo just sold in Hake's recently completed auction for just under $2,000 but the historical significance of this piece was not yet known until Cesar Lopez, Latin Baseball expert, was able to identify the team and season. This photo would make the perfect accompanying piece for someone who already owns one or both of the Ciudad Trujillo championship team photos.
