Default 'T205' artwork not found in the T205 set

I thought I would show everyone the three examples of T205 type artwork not seen in the T205 Gold Border set. The T205 set has 208 different fronts whose images, if you have collected vintage for a decent amount of time, are fairly burned into your retinas, thus allowing you to see these cards when you close your eyes.

The T202 set has a couple of players who did not appear in the T205 set: Walter Blair and Joe Wood. I am not a T202 collector. Just never cottoned to the mix of black and white action photos with the color portraits. However I am one of those deformed and hideous T202 end panel collectors...search out my detailed post last year about the frequency of each panel, and please note that this post did not receive a single reply. Ah, the life of the outcast collector. In my eyes, and being the T202 end collector that I am, the Wood and Blair are a neat continuation of the beautiful artistry seen in the T205 set.

Which leads me to the third member of this party, which until recently I had never seen, and was only vaguely aware that it existed. The 1914 T330-2 Piedmont Stamps set consists of 121 stamps, the artwork of 118 of these being derived from the T205 set. The three additional subjects are the Walter Blair and Joe Wood mentioned previously in regards to the T202 set...and Bill Killifer. Bill was a weak hitting but highly regarded up and coming catcher with a strong throwing arm. Why he was chosen over some other possible candidates (for example Grover Alexander or how about Joe Jackson)to be included in the Piedmont Art Stamp we will never know, but dang it all to smithereens he was. His portrait blends in nicely with the other T205 artwork, but it still has an unfamiliar look to it.

With no further ado, I present this mighty trio for your viewing pleasure, including the mysterious Killifer to kill for.

Brian

Brian,
This reply will assure you that your most recent post will not go without answer...

My name is Brian and I am a T205 Collector.
I have battled this addiction for many years.
Now I will seek out the Blair T202 (I never paid attention to this panel before)
I have been patiently waiting for the right Speaker/Wood to come along.
And i'll look for the stamp of Killefer.

Dammit.

I guess it could be worse...what if they made tri-fold cards of T206's but found 100 different players that didn't appear on the normal T206's?
(we should start a thread)

Nice work and subset there, Brian. If you put "T206" in the title you would get more feedback. But alas, man can only live so long on T206 alone. Nice detective work too.....thanks for sharing

Default Link a poo

Thanks Brian and Leon...thought I would provide an alternative to the Net54 T206 circus. By the way, here is the link to that T202 posting that I mentioned earlier:

Leon please note that I already used that T206 in subject line tactic back then and it failed miserably.

The T205, to a degree, was the first prewar set I completed. I have looked for a wood end panel without luck for a while.

Here's a little blog I did during the adventure...

also, an "update set" I created ... I do like the Wagner card...

It's a ratty set, but represents and evolution in my baseball card adventure.

Default The terrific trio

The Piedmont Art Stamp of Killifer will be a tough one...any stamp from the set is very uncommon, and thus finding a specific one like the Killifer will most likely be quite an undertaking and involve a ocean liner of time, unless you get lucky. The T202 end panels of Wood and Blair will pop up time from time, with Wood's popularity driving up its price.
