I thought this would have been one of the first topics posted. Generally, across the post-war years, it is no secret that his cards command the highest prices from year-to-year, if not always being the most sought after. Here's a '64 Topps Stand Up to start it off:

Great card! I don't have any Mantle's in my collection (just sold a '64 Ven Bombers), but the '64 SU is the one that's on the radar.

Thanks Andrew. This is my only post-war standup. I've had it since his playing years. I grew up a Yankee fan during his career so it was only natural I gravitated toward his cards.

I can't show mine, out of embarrassment.
I only have one (1968 Topps) and it came back as trimmed.
it's ok though...I'm not a fan anyway

I posted this in the recent Autographed Cards thread, but I hope no one minds if I post it here too. I only do it in the name of "completeness" (or something like that) because I think this thread has the potential to become the definitive Mantle "page" on the web -- unless I'm totally in the dark and someone knows another good one.

1961 and 1962. This '62 is different than the one I posted in an earlier thread. It is from the box. The stats box in this one has a grid, whereas the earlier one does not. Seems that Post had an ad supplement insert in Life magazine at the time, which included the Mantle card, which has no lines in the stat box. According to SCD, the Mantle card has been extensively counterfeited by pasting reproductions of the Life insert on cardboard, i.e., the bogus ones will be on cardboard w/o grid lines, and a blank back.

Mantle was on a lot of nice cards. My personal favorite is the '53 Topps.

McD, stunning display! I don't know which question(s) to ask first. What's the story on the '55 Skowron? Is it the test stamp issue? What about the '53 autographed enlargements?

Paul: My humble shrine to NYC baseball is confined to one corner of my library or else I'd be on the business end of a fatwa from the bride. Glad you like it. Here's another picture. Did a little re-arranging. (If you want to see displays that will blow your socks off check out this link from the N54 Memorabilia Forum: http://tinyurl.com/349t27 "Show me your displays and memorablia rooms"). The Skowron card is a plain old garden variety beater but the Yankees hat is his game-worn (and moth-eaten) cap, supposedly from the 1957 season. I was a kid in NYC in those days and Moose was my favorite ballplayer. I'm not much for game-used memorabilia with all the dubious authentication but I choose to believe that this is the genuine article (so does J Spence fwiw) and it makes a nice connection to my young days. The '53 Topps lithos of Mantle and Mays were commissioned in the late '80's as a limited edition by the Marriott Corp who were the owners of the original '53 Topps artwork for the two players (all this per the LOA). I have seen these prints offered a couple more times at auction since I bought them two years ago.
