Baseball Contracts, Documents & Letters

100) 1920 NEW YORK YANKEES PLAYERS CONTRACT SIGNED BY PLAYER AARON WARD, & HALL OF FAME MEMBERS JACOB RUPPERT & BAN JOHNSON Large format four page early Yankees contract measures 8 1/2 x 14. Signed on the 3rd page by Ward and Ruppert and the last page by Ban Johnson. The folds in the contract have begun to seperate but are still intact. None of the signature are back to back so the signatures COULD be removed from the contract leaving the owner with Two Hall of Famers and a "toughie" Aaron Ward played for the Yankees from 1917-1926 the White Sox 1927 & Cleveland 1928. He helped the Yankees win pennants in 1921 & 22 and the 1923 World Series. Ward is famous for collecting the first hit by a member of the Yankees in Yankee Stadium. He died in 1961. JACOB RUPPERT was long time owner of the Yankees who among his many accomplishments were bringing Babe Ruth to the Yankees and building Yankee Stadium. He died in 1939 and was inducted into the Baseball Hall Of Fame in 2013. BAN JOHNSON signed reverse of contract as league President Founder and first President of the American League serving in that capacity from 1901-1928. He was inducted into the Baseball Hall of Fame in 1937 six years after his death in 1931. $475.00
101) 1931 RAY MOSS BROOKLYN DODGERS CONTRACT SIGNED BY PLAYER RAY MOSS, BROOKLYN PRESIDENT FRANK YORK (TWICE), LEAGUE PRESIDENT JOHN HEYDLER (3 TIMES) AND BRAVES OWNER EMIL FUCHS Unique contract in that Moss played for the Brooklyn Dodgers 1926-1931. In 1931 his contract was assigned to the Braves this contract represents that assignment. Four page players contract signed on page three by Ray Moss (Died-1998) and signed on page three and four by Brooklyn Dodgers President FRANK YORK (a RARE autograph York was Brooklyn President 1930-32 and died in 1937) the fourth page is signed THREE times by National League President and possible future Hall of Famer JOHN HEYDLER (Heydler served as NL President in 1909 and again from 1918-1934 he died in 1956) Also signed on page 4 by Braves owner EMIL FUCHS (Braves owner 1923-35 and manager 1928 Died-1961) In excellent condition overall with normal horizontal creases associated with a contract. $350.00
102) BILL LUCAS & EDDIE ROBINSON ONE PAGE PLAYER ASSIGNMENT DOCUMENT SIGNED BY BOTH Dated April 19th 1968. Lucas signs representing the West Palm Beach Braves and Robinson signs representing the Richmond Braves. Measures 8 1/2 x 11. Robinson played for nine teams between 1942-1957 and is the oldest player ever to play in a World Series. The REAL gem here is the RARE signature of Bill Lucas who was the first African American General Manager in Major League baseball serving as Braves GM from 1976 until his death at age 43 in 1979. $350.00
103) 1948 GINO CIMOLI "BONUS BABY" PLAYER CONTRACT FOR THE SANTA BARBARA DODGERS Standard four page players contract Signed Twice with his full name Gino Nick Cimoli on the front and third pages also co signed by his father and by a representative of the team. A star athlete in high school contract was signed in December for the 1949 season making this Cimoli's first professional contract . Historic when taken into context this was one of the largest BONUS contracts ever offered a then 19 year old Cimoli was 8 years away from his major league debut. This contract offers him $200.00 per month and an amazing $11,000 bonus for signing which was virtually unheard of in the Dodgers organization with the penny pinching Branch Rickey. Cimoli's debut would come with the Dodgers 1956-58, he also would play for the 1959 Cardinals, 1960-61 Pirates, 1961 Braves, 1962-64 Athletics, 1964 Orioles & 1965 Angels. He died in 2011. $250.00
104) MICKEY OWEN 1955-1956 PUERTO RICO WINTER BASEBALL CONTRACT A full eight pages long as it is executed in spanish and in english with a page for "special Provisions" to play for the Ponce team in Puerto Rico. Mickey Owen was a catcher for the Cardinals 1937-40, Dodgers 1941-45, Cubs 1949-51 & Red Sox 1954. This is likely his last professional contract as a player. He was a member of the All Star team four times he died in 2005. $150.00
105) LUKE EASTER 1955-56 PUERTO RICO WINTER BASEBALL CONTRACT A full eight pages long it is executed in spanish and english with a page for "special provisions" to play for the San Juan team in Puerto Rico. Easter has signed page three twice with the uncommon formal version of his signature "LUSCIOUS EASTER" A team representative has also signed. One of the great power hitters of his day he played for the Homestead Grays in the Negro Leagues 1947-48 and in the major leagues for Cleveland 1949-1954 he hit 340 major league home runs in only 6 seasons most of them tape measure blasts known as "Easter Eggs". This is likely his last professional baseball contract. In the new"Bill James Historical Baseball Abstract" Bill James ranked Easter as the 2nd best first baseman in Negro League history behind Buck Leonard. He also said "If you could clone him and bring him back you'd have the greatest power hitter in baseball today if not ever" Easter was shot at close range during a bank holdup by two thugs with shotguns in 1979. $350.00
