Default What's the deal with T206 Titus?

I've only been collecting T206s for a little over a year and I was wondering when did this whole John Titus craze start?

Was there just a sudden realization in the last couple of years that it would be cool to collect a card with the only mustache in the set or is there some other reason besides the stache? Is one guy just hoarding a bunch to raise the value and that's why prices are high for this common card?

Also, just for fun, any predictions on the next possible Titus-esque card that might catch on do to some random aesthetic?

wow...great idea for a thread...I don't think the titus card has ever been discussed here b4?

i think it's popularity is due to the fact that "tit" is in his name...and we all like tits!

I think it is Tit "us". It combines us and tit, what's not to like?

Well, if it's true that Titus is popular because he's the only player with a mustache, perhaps Chase will be next because he's the only player holding a trophy.
Or perhaps Dunn, because that's the only card where we can't decide if it's horizontal or vertical.
Or maybe we T206 collectors have finally jumped the shark.

Ha touche well I realize this topic has been beaten to death but I'm more curious about when specifically (like in the 80's, 90's, etc.), did this card start to really gain popularity with collectors.

Also, has anyone noticed a trend with any other T206 cards where a common seems to be asking for higher and higher prices? For example, the horizontal Pelty.

As best I can tell, the Titus craze began in the last two years, and supposedly comes from one individual trying to corner the market.
Luckily for me I got a Titus 12 years ago.

Default Titus

About 5-10 years ago a very small premium applied over the last 2-3 years this premium has exploded. In my opinion.

There is an archived thread from 2001 where this was brought up. The thread turns to shill bidding, but the fact that it was still noticed by someone in 2001 makes me think the premium has been around longer than 5-10 years.
