Is there any kind of comprehensive list somewhere for the N172 set that includes all the known variations and poses? |

Is that one Hoy card from 1887? Thats odd since he didnt make the majors till April of 88 and all of his other cards that ive seen say 1888. |

Beautiful collection Julie- you did good. I'm in to my "only say nice things phase" after the slings and arrows I've suffered on the board in the past 24 hours. Am I correct to say that of all the players pictured in Old Judge, Dummy Hoy was the last survivor, having died in 1961? I think I am right on that one. |

John, interesting point. It would seem that the only possible date on that card is 1887, couldn't be an 8 or 9 on the end. |

He is the last known survivor Barry, but complete information isnt known for all the players so its impossible to say for sure that he is.Lets just say hes the oldest known, and a very good chance the oldest overall. |

I only have the catching upper left hand corner pose, but I'm in awe of the clarity of all your images. |

--didn't I read something about Washington called Hoy up, but he didn't stay in '87? Or am I confusing him with J.Jackson and Philadelphia? The encyclopedia has '88 as his first year--but it sure was a FULL year; he played almost every game. |

I dont know when Hoy first signed with Washington but ive read a story about his minor league team being sold in nov of 1887,and then he and Tommy McCarthy left the team for the majors. It made it sound like the guy paid alot to get the team then lost 2 key players.Ive also read a short article from early 1888 that doesnt mention him signing to play with Washington yet and from every other source ive seen they mention him starting his career in the majors in 1888(with no mention of signing before that).I still dont understand how he has an 1887 card or why they would take a pic of him with the team before that. |
