Am I correct to say that of all the players pictured in Old Judge, Dummy Hoy was the last survivor, having died in 1961? I think I am right on that one.

Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>He is the last known survivor Barry,but complete information isnt known for all the players so its impossible to say for sure that he is.Lets just say hes the oldest known,and a very good chance the oldest overall.<br /><br />The opposite spectrum of him is the Pittsburgh 1st baseman Alex McKinnon who passed away in early July of 1887<br /><br /><br />As far as Hoy poses/variations go.He supposedly has 9 variations total that include 5 different poses.So Julie is almost at the halfway point,and shes only missing one pose which can be seen in the Oregon Find on gfg's page but i dont believe its still for sale.

The encyclopedia has '88 as his first year--but it sure was a FULL year; he played almost every game. <br /><br /><br />Buck Barker wrote '88 as his first year on the back of the squatting pose...<br /><br /> <img src="http://www.network54.com/Realm/jphotos/BN172Dsb002.jpg"><br /><br />Joe, I'll e-mail you about my scanner. Posted By: <b>john/z28jd</b><p>I dont know when Hoy first signed with Washington but ive read a story about his minor league team being sold in nov of 1887,and then he and Tommy McCarthy left the team for the majors.It made it sound like the guy paid alot to get the team then lost 2 key players.Ive also read a short article from early 1888 that doesnt mention him signing to play with Washington yet and from every other source ive seen they mention him starting his career in the majors in 1888(with no mention of signing before that).I still dont understand how he has an 1887 card or why they would take a pic of him with the team before that.<br /><br /><br />It could just be a copyright date error which would be easily explained by the difference in Washington uniforms and backgrounds on 1887 and 1888 cards.<br /><br />1887 have black pants,plain white shirts and are black background studio shots.<br />1888 all white uniforms,with W on the shirt,and backgrounds are the outdoor backdrop
