Default Colgan Chip's Round Tins

I purchased a large box of old tins at a local estate auction that included 18 of the Colgan 's Chips round tins. Of the 18 tins I have noticed there are quite a few different tins. There is Mint and Violet of course and then some have a Food and Drug act, some do not, some have copyrights some don't, some have Louisville some have N.Y.. My Question is are any of these tins more scarce than the others? I have collected the chips for 10 years but I don't know anything about the tins and was hoping a board member could help out with rarity of the tins if any. I have ordered issue #19 of Old Cardboard which has a article on the Chips. Thanks Daryl

The hardest to find tins are those made by the Sterling Gum Co. (successors to Colgans). These command a bit of a premium. Other than those the others are all valued about the same, regardless whether they say "Colgans" on back or "Autosales Gum" on back or they have the Food & Drug act notations.

On a side note if you have any Colgans dupes I would love to find someone to trade with--I am about 45 from the E254 set and have over 80 doubles to trade for ones I need.

Default Colgan Chip's Round Tins

Cant' remember who or when I got this info, but this was a response that I got awhile back when I asked about tins:

If it has a 1910 copyright then it is good, because the "Colgan Co." was bought out after 1910 and before the end of their card promotion. I am not sure people care too much about whether a card actually came in the tin or not-they are all pretty similar. It is near impossible to tell the exact date the tins were produced. However, from personal research and experience...if on the back the tin says "Autosales Gum Co of New York -Successors of Colgans..." then these tins included the Tin Tops (not sure about the Red Borders). I know this because I have found 3 different Tin Tops cards still in their containers (all at different locations at different times, one still had a stick of gum- so it was "as issued") and each one was in the "Autosales" tin. I have never found a Red border in the tin still so I don't know who issued this set. But it appears that Autosales (not Colgans) produced the Tin Top set. I have never found a E254 in an autosales tin, but they may exist as when Autosales bought out the Colgans Co. they may have still had some leftover "stock"(merely theoretical). They may have done this as the Autosales tin is more common than the TinTops cards themselves.
