Default T206 Psa 7 Cobb Red that sold on ebay

Posted By: George

I saw this auction, thought it was a very fair price and considered pulling the trigger. Just so nervous with the horror stories going around on high end cards in slabs being messed with..ie..cracked out and resealed. I also thought it may be slightly over graded. Any thoughts on the card in the slab?

Great looking centering and would be a great price for a 7, but the card doesn't look like a 7 to me. 7s are sharp cards! So, I agree with you on the overgrading of this one... the corners look a bit rough to me for the grade. Go through VCP and look at some of the Red 6s. I would take a couple of those over that 7. Just goes to prove the "buy the card not the holder" mantra.

There is some things wrong with this auction.

1. The seller has a 42 feedback with no vintage sales
2. This card goes for $5K all the time
3. Asking for a BIN of $3200 is way undervalued.

So whoever bought this card will not be happy in the end. Either it is a switch job or he will never get the card.

Looks a little strange to me also and for some reason I can't get a supersized view. The seller does have another T206 up for sale however, right now, but something does not seem right. From the view I had the holder did not seem to be cracked but the card clearly does not seem to be of "7" quality, the background almost looks retouched.

I can't get a supersized view of the front, but when I click on a supersize view of the back I get a scan of a Cobb from a tbarlage auction.

if something looks too good to be true...it probably is.

i saw that card minutes after it was posted...i too, almost pulled the trigger...but i looked at it closely; the price, bad pic, possible wrinkle or smudge on the red background, etc, so i decided to pull-back. i wish the new owner best of luck with it, hopefully it is legit and simply a great deal...but i was "gun-shy" on it.

Rick,

I get the same image from Tom's auction. Is it possible that when someone steal's a scan, the source of the scan is embedded with it?

Martin, that is same thought that crossed my mind. I'm not sure if it is a glitch in ebay or a stolen scan, but something is screwed up.

I thought that the font on the PSA holder looked strange.

I too almost pulled the trigger when it first came up but thought the holder looked a bit strange. When the "larger image" linked it to another Cobb auction (PSA 3), that was simply too odd. Hopefully the winner happens to read these posts and asks some good questions before sending off $3,000+ for a questionable card/holder. The buyer would certainly be warned by a good person or two if Ebay hadn't hidden all bidders/winners. Strange that on "best offer" winners, the buyer ID is in fact visible often times. One would think Ebay had smarter people on board but we all know that's not the case of late.

I think you are on to something, I get reverted to a Barlage auction also when I repeatedly click on the scan. It doesn't look like the same card though, the card offered appears to have a slight scratch near the head, the Barlage card doesn't but does had a crease. I think the total image is a cut and past job from a number of scans, the picture from one scan, the PSA from one or two different scans etc. The description on the PSA label is too strange, T206 on the top line, a line skipped then another line of description then red - back, no way. I am going to try the cert number on the PSA website and see what that turns up.

I to saw the card immediatly and knew it was bogus. How could anyone be close to the pulling the trigger on that scam? Their are 5's that look better.

It is a scam. Part of that craig list crew.

I would not touch any cards from people that
are basically fly by night.

I went to the PSA website and tried to add the cert. it said it belonged to another registered set so at least it is a valid cert, though it might not correspond to a t206 card. Then I went to each t206 set that had images posted and tried to determine who the card belonged to but none of the scans were of that card.

It is one of those Craig's list Cobbs. Take a look at his other Auction he is running. He has a Cycle Cy Young up.....Legit or not? http://cgi.ebay.com/1909-11-CY-YOUNG-CLE-GLOVE-SHOWS-CARD-T206-PSA-5_W0QQitemZ170298223328QQcmdZViewItemQQptZUS_SM_Sp orts_Cards?hash=item170298223328&_trksid=p3911.c0. m14&_trkparms=72%3A1205%7C66%3A2%7C65%3A12%7C39%3A 1%7C240%3A1318

If the Cobb is a scam I would also assume the Young is.

Again, these appear to be the same cards that flooded craig's list.

The cert has a correct number but the card is usually a fake at worst
or over graded at best. A cert is made up and a slab is also usually
one that is frosted.

Ok, this may seem weird but, do this.

If you try to select the link to "Larger Picture" - nothing will come up if the front of the card is beneath the link. Select the back side of the card and then select the link to "Larger Picture". For me, a PSA 3 red Cobb portrait T206 auction shows up.

Pretty strange....

The guy did sell a 53 Mantle PSA 7 for $3500 and the Young card both have positive feedback left for that card. Not sure what to think but are the tags all legit? I know they have had typesets. Is there a place that has all the different PSA tags?

i am assuming that the flip is authentic...
cert # matches card (except for the recent disparity of grade) AND the hologram would be virtually impossible to duplicate.

having a zillion Red Cobbs and hawking nearly eveyone that has went anywhere......i could maybe remembered that once being in a 5 holder. With the color faded in the background, it shouldnt be more then a 6 , which in that case the price is close to what it sold for. As long as the purchaser is happy with the card, no biggie.
