Wow, can't believe it is already October. The older you get, the faster time flies
Thanks to Frank for making the trade to bring me Mr. Zamloch and get even closer to completing the 1911 Zeenut set.
Also I picked up this E97 Hartsell variation in black and white.

nice e97 b/w...yorktown did well with that group of e97s from mastro, it helped that the steinfeldt psa4 crossed to an sgc70! here are a few more e98s thanks to bruce and jim (although I haven't paid either of them yet ).

this represents 1/6th of the set! for those too lazy to do a big T or M set.

Transferred from last Sept thread:

A few from the past several weeks:

I didn't even know this was postally used when I bought it (I don't ask b/c I don't care one way or the other). So I was pretty delighted to find the following first sentence of the message on the back:

"Dearest Esther, This is a horrid picture of me. I look like I had just had a terrible pain some place."

How COOL is that? I got a PC that was used by one of the people pictured in it. I wonder which one she was. Whoever she was, her name was Becky.

PC is Lone Rock WI team, from 1913.

This one is quite large - the image is maybe 6x8. I like it a lot even though it's generic, no team or uniform, etc. I think it reminds me of myself. Oh, and it has occured to me that this might actually be a boy and not a girl?

And finally this one. I'm not really sure what it is. I think it's a photo, but not sure. It's huge. Like 14x22 huge. Whatever it is, I like it.

Joann: The mount of your last image looks exactly like this one that I have (mine appears to be trimmed down), although I have no further information on it.

WHOA! Brian, they are identical. Is yours about 14" across or so? It is the exact same woodgrain and same really high gloss.

Does anyone know if that particular wood grain pattern was universal (I know general wood grain may have been common, but I mean this particular one)? If not, then maybe the photos were from the same area?

Just guessing at it here, but I'd love to be able to find out more about this player.

J

No, I picked it up at the National in Cleveland this year. First appearance of Rabbit Maranville on a ML card.

Yes, those are the ones from Barry's auction. I downgraded and sold my other SGC 80 Comisky to a board member....I am really not condition conscious most of the time....and these images, especially Comisky, are pretty nice....With the current value of the other card, all things considered, I got these free and put a few grand in the bank....or more appropriately, helped pay for the D32 Ruth I bought in the auction too. Collecting is like your wife going shopping. Every time I "save" money....I end up spending much more....regards

The Bill Dickey card below was the last one that I needed to finish off my 1-96 Diamond Stars set. Back in January I said that I wanted to finish the Diamond Stars set in 5 or 6 years, a nice slow project. But, here I am in October with a complete set! I have found set collecting to be very addictive! If you have a few minutes, please take a look at my Diamond Stars set at my website below.

Sorry, boxing, but if I had one fight I wish I could see, it'd be the second Nelson/Wolgast (February 22, 1910) ..... 42 rounds of blood and guts ....

I put this on the Sisler thread but might as well post here as well.

I also picked up a Bescher Sweet Caporal pin, I guess that would be best on the memorbabilia forum.

Just picked up a 1907 Nebraska Indians postcard of Dan Tobey. He pitched for the NI, but gained his fame as a ring announcer...he is a member of the boxing Hall of Fame. I also managed to pickup a photo of Tobey in the ring circa 1940.

Believe it or not that (downgrading) wasn't my intention when I bought them. However, when I thought about what I just spent on the Ruth I had to do some rearranging. Unfortunately the best Brownies Champs in the group have severe technical issues. I am not sure if any of the nicest ones, including Comisky, would even get an AUT.....But the group looks decent together and I almost paid for the Ruth with the other sale. Sometimes I, like many others, have to juggle some stuff...I am quite sure you know the feeling..

This was an unexpected pickup...bought a box of magazines at a yard sale. This Borders "The Magazine of Bristol" from May 1941 had a article about minor league business manager of the Bristol Twins of the Appalachian League - Ed Smith shown with Babe Ruth and Dolph Camilli from 1938 inside. I hardly ever get to see pics of Ruth in a Dodger uniform...still seems so strange...

Josh- All 3 nice looking cards but I am wondering if you have a cousin working at SGC as a grader because no matter how exish or exmtish my caramels look I never get better than a 40 when there is border chipping like on the Lobert.
As long as the prices keep falling dramatically on the E97 black and white proofs, I'll keep buying! These cards in this condition were selling for 3x the going rate now just a year and a half ago. Keep 'em coming! Especially the tough ones like this one.
