Hello Guys,

Just wanted to know what everybody thought of this auction. It's a one day auction for an extremely difficult card to find in this condition for a very reasonable price. Any thoughts.

I also see another seller has the GAI 4.5 Joe Jackson that just sold in the Mile High Cards Auction for $12K+ on eBay for the bargain basement B.I.N. of $4,999. Hmmmm.....

Of course if you win it Scott will email the seller and tell him it's worth $12,000.

This has all the makings of a fake auction on a stolen account. I've reported three of these in the last couple of months and ebay did find them to be stolen accounts.

It will be interesting to see what happens if they don't get him shut down. My guess is the guy is going to hold on to all the emails of the people that contact him but not "approve" them. That way the auction goes the full limit with nobody winning the auction. Then he'll notify all those that contacted him and offer to sell them the card. Then he gets several suckers to send him the money. The buyers can then kiss their money good bye. In addition, all transactions will have been done outside of ebay so ebay won't give a crap and won't have any legal exposure. Everybody that reads this should send him an email asking to be approved. Then we'll have to compare notes later to see how many he offers it to. Maybe if he responds, ebay will listen a little better.

Unfortunately, the only way to stop these auctions may be to block them as they arise. I cannot think of how you could stop a scam artist bent on this sort of stuff from acting, except at an extreme cost and with great loss of convenience, such as:

1. Force every seller who wants to post something of a certain value to post a fidelity bond to cover losses;

2. Mandate some form of insurance;

3. Require that all sellers accept credit cards over a certain value or use paypal and toughen the enforcement options there.

Short of that, we cannot hope for a resolution.

but never heard anything. Too strange. Opening bid of $1.00 with no reserve. I thought maybe most bidders wouldn't want to fool around with pre-registration and I could get the card at a steal but apparently Shoeless Joe in his GAI holder went behind the fence like in Field of Dreams because there were no bidders and the auction is now closed, having run for its one day limit.

I think Rob hit it right on the head. he will just email the inquirers and get theree money that way. I don't know if you noticed but there was 2 more auctions of this type that had different ebay names. Definately something strange going on, the seller obviously had no intention of having people put in bids.
Bob, If you tried to put in a bid you would find that you could not with out getting approved. This is way the private auctions should be run, it would work a little better than the current system.

Ebay sent me the following message:

messages asking for User IDs and passwords. These messages appear to
come from eBay Support, but in fact are not. eBay will never ask for
sensitive information of this nature through email.

Finally, there are a number of computer viruses in circulation that log
and record keystrokes. It's recommended that computer users keep their
virus alert software up-to-date, and check their system often for
problems. A firewall for high-speed Internet users is also highly
recommended.

Please be aware that eBay urges caution when purchasing high-priced
items, especially if the price seems too good to be true.

This creep has already taken several innocent ebayers for tens of thousands of dollars. His website still consists of my inventory, Mile High's and Andy Madec's.

Amazing how little support I got from ebay on this matter since complaining about him on 10/15, when he first surfaced. They would not give me any information about him despite proving to them that he is using my inventory and my images to steal from people.

As long as it does not happen through eBay they are fine with it.

I guess this fraudulent seller also stole his written description of the Delahanty card. It seems to be written in a very professional manner. But, the email to Ben is written in borderline-broken English. Somehow, most of the fraudulent sellers on ebay cannot construct a simple English sentence.

I have been on the telephone with Yahoo this morning, making some progress. I now have their legal department involved. Let's see if they are a little more hands on than what we have seen with ebay.

"Toni" has a pretty elaborate thing going on. It is not just the website but the hijacking of the ebay ids is pretty good. It is too bad that people reply to the bogus e-mails that they think are from ebay.

You have a warped sense of humor, chief. People are sending this idiot money and when someone is ripped off it is not a laughing matter. I have also spent a great deal of time trying to prevent this from happening. I have other things to do with my time than play internet police.

You may want to be more cautious with your liberal posting of your purchases. They may end up for sale by “Toni” and undermine the purpose of your celebration.

Irrelevant to authenticity issues, the thing that I've never understood, is why people buy some really expensive (say over $1,000) from someone they've never dealt with before and has no reputation. The first time I bid in a Sotheby's or a Leland's auction I was a bit nervous, because you can never be sure beforehand of the quality of their grading, service, etc.

Although this will cause Leon great consternation, the Yahoo legal department has assured me that "Toni's" site will be coming down. Temporarily, this is great news for the general public and bad news for Leon, as he will have to find something else to find humor in at someone else's expense.

The E92 Wallace color variation card is a card I won from Lew Lipset about a year ago, along with 2 other color variations from the set and the three "regular" cards. I sold this card on ebay, ungraded, and the card ended up going to BOTN, either as the buyer (can't remember) or Greg bought it from him. It is the same card, I recognize the stain on the front. It has now been graded by SGC, I see. Obviously this is not Toni-Jim's card. I also recognize BOTN's inventory as I have checked his cards out from time to time to see what Greg has for sale. I hope someone nails this crud (Toni-Jim not Greg)
