Might be good, but I wouldn’t want it. Lacks too much detail in his auto for me.

It was an in person autograph during the 94 season. Not by me, I traded for it.

Sadly, only matters IF a TPA thinks it's real. That's what it's become

Don't send to CAS it's worse than keeping it raw.

How long ago did you acquire? I would be surprised it if gets authenticated, since the loops seem too loopy and the wide Sharpie is commonly used by fakers because it hides a bunch of detail.

It's a pretty easy autograph to forge to be honest, so I suppose there's no way to know with certainty, but I think the fact that you traded for it in 94/95 should make you feel a bit better about it. Even though he was a top prospect, he obviously wasn't the HOF, NY Yankee Captain at that time, and top prospects didn't have the dollar signs attached to them in the 1990's that they do today. If you had recently acquired it the chances of it being a forgery go way up. I got Jeter several times during that same time frame and my earlier ones all look identical to that. I would feel comfortable owning this one.

I have around 160 cards of this set autographed (majority in person and about 10-15 through trades) and am considering putting it up for sale. Hence the reason for my ask to the community here about the Jeter autograph.
I obtained well over 90% of the autographs in person while I lived in Colorado Springs. And as I mentioned above, I got between 15 - 20 in trade with another collector during that time frame. My initial intent at the time (94 - 95 range) was to get the entire set autographed but life got in the way and here we are today. These have been stored since shortly after the 95 time frame and now I am cleaning house to some degree and am considering selling this set with the autographs I have collected. Any thoughts on how I may approach a sale for this set from the group here would be greatly appreciated by me. Regards and thank you for your inputs. Butch

just do a quick ebay search to get comp on prices...but besides the Jeter I don't think there are any other hofs in the set?
Next step would be the avenue to sell them, you can try here, or ebay, or an auction house. each have their pros and cons when it comes to time/cost/prices. if these were mine i would say the jeter raw is around $150 give or take, and graded it's $250 give or take. grading will set you back around $50 minimum. not knowing what other stars are signed i would value the whole thing at around $500 raw? if i don't need the money i would keep it for sentimental reasons...if i was to sell i would list the jeter raw at $200 or get it graded (timeframe 6+ months) and list it for $350 and my sell price is $300 (i would expect for it to sit on ebay for 3-4 months before selling). the rest i would list the stars and semi stars individually on ebay and the lower fillers maybe group into teams. No need to send me a PM to thank me

The only 'potential' HOF'er is Billy Wagner. Maybe I wait to see if he gets the call over the next couple of years.
Todd Hollandsworth, Roger Cedeno, Darren Bragg, Izzy Molina, Karim Garcia, Derrek Lee, Billy Vanlandingham, Phil Nevin, Troy Percival.. Are the more familiar names that I have autographs for. Ok, thanks for your insight. It is certainly appreciated. Butch.......

Point taken, but it does not cost too much to find out too.

There are some toughies in that set, like BJ Wallace and Ugeuth Urbina, but they would really only appeal to someone trying to complete that set. Tons of guys made the major leagues in some capacity. Richard Hidalgo, Tony Clark, David Bell, Dmitri Young, Derrek Lee, Charles Johnson, Johnny Damon, Jason Kendall, Joey Hamilton, Phil Nevin, etc. Jose Lima and Charles Peterson are deceased but not hard to find. Depending on who you have signed, and what condition the cards and autographs are in, you may find a taker, but the value is basically tied to the Jeter alone unless you find the perfect buyer.
EDIT: Wagner is on his last year of eligibility for the HOF and missed by something like 7 votes last year. He is a slam dunk to be inducted this year IMO. Last edited by dgo71; 05-21-2024 at 01:22 PM. |

chaddurbin and dgo71 have given great advice.
Not long ago I had a nearly complete signed 1994 UD minor league set, missing only 2 cards signed and Jeter was one. Took a long time to sell it, and I did not get what I thought was adequate, but can you do? They are not easy sells. I have many signed wax product sets from the early 1990s in various stages of completion, but will never complete them because it would be impossible, and even if i did complete them, where is a market for them? |

One of the worst autographs out there.
Looks like a 5 year old scribbled it. Last edited by Shoeless Moe; 06-04-2024 at 05:31 PM. |
