Doesn't fit the OP's original criteria, but then again most of the posts don't as well. Here are three of top tier HOF'ers that are not mine, but are something not often seen.

Plows Candy cards, and the poses in them, are so awesome. What a great set

Did you know that the Vassar Sweaters is a multi-sport set?
Like the Disbrow racer (and the Walter & Lajoie I had consigned), the Cobb & Speaker were originally oversized jumbos that were cut above their midsections to fit in a scrapbook some 100+ years ago. |

Yes, that’s an awesome card Craig.
Here is a Boston Daily Souvenir postcard of Joe Wood (only one I’ve seen) and a RPPC of Cy Young playing for an amateur team as their hired gun for the championship game.

I never get tired of looking at this thread...
shown many times but other than that, not too many seen. Not technically a card but sort of close to a tintype.

I assume this 1913 Zeenut of Parkin is seldom seen, as I hadn't seen it before 3 or 4 years ago (not mine). A pretty cool image and pose, even if some of you have previously laid your eyes upon it.

Fascinating thread. Amazing cards.
How about this one? "The first black athlete depicted on a sports card, trading card or tobacco card, Hart appears in Thomas H. Hall’s Between the Acts & Bravo Cigarettes set (1880, N344), along with nine other pedestrians and two oarsmen." His Wikipedia entry details how Hart played baseball in the early 1880s. |

Kid manning leaning on rock 7 or 8 copies? The only one I’ve seen in the last 20 years is the one that I own. If there is really 7 or 8 copies I would love to see a scan of all of them. I was thinking maybe 3 or 4.

Trying to determine if these baseball post cards are legit
As far as the Pinkerton Postcards go I found a thread here last night from a year ago saying that if the backs are gray or white then they are copies but if they are creamy white then they are originals. Also there is some distinction between made in the us and printed in the us?
I think that the backs on my look more creamy than white is because they had been in a photo album or on somebodies wall for decades. So not 1913 but possibly post WW2 copies? And is there any insight to these other cards that anyone can give me? I am looking on sending them all off to a private auction house. Thanks in advance |

It strikes me that the wrestling verbiage is a little odd, as this depicts cards 31-34 and 36-39, a 1st series ad. Unless I’m horrible misremembering, the handful of wrestlers only appear in what is said to be series 2. Interesting, hadn’t noticed that before.

Thanks, Adam! It’s a little rough due to having been pasted to a board and framed in its previous life. There’s 5 sports in the H818 series. I think the baseball is the coolest, of course!

Images of cards rarely seen!
I already posted this in the February pickup thread, but I think it’s worthy of posting here. I don’t believe there’s another picture on the Internet of this card.

Ryan, Leon, etc...Seeing your (amazing) PCs, Cabinets, Cards from the 1800's reminds me of the famous quote from Ken Burns' Baseball documentary...
"In our sun-down perambulations, of late, through the outer parts of Brooklyn, we have observed several parties of youngsters playing "base", a certain game of ball...Let us go forth awhile, and get better air in our lungs. Let us leave our close rooms...the game of ball is glorious." -Walt Whitman, from the 23 July 1846 edition of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle Last edited by MVSNYC; 02-04-2024 at 08:41 AM. |
