Default Observation regarding 1910 Obak Cigarette pack

I noticed that a scan of the side of a 1910 Obak Cigarette pack actually used one of the slogans used on a 1910 Obak back..."Convenient Sensible."

Curious if other 1910 packs may have used other slogans?

Any thoughts from Jon or other cigarette packs experts.

Patrick

Patrick-

I have a beautiful Obak pack with its original T212-1 card. It does not have a slogan on the side, but the Type 1s didn't have slogans from what I recall.

I actually purchased the pack pictured above because of the slogan. I had assumed it likely was a T212-2 pack.

Default Congrats Jon!

Congrats Jon!

Was hoping you saw the auction.

The tax stamp and factory looked correct as well. In addition, the design on the side panel of the pack also matches part of the design on the Obak card back.

Cool item.

Have to keep an eye open to see if other 1910 packs have any of the other slogans.

Patick

Thanks Patrick. To be honest, I had never focused on it before so maybe others with some Obak packs can weigh in. I certainly hope this doesn’t send me on a variation/design quest!

Cool Obak pack. It is interesting to note that "Convenient Sensible" is the most commonly seen slogan on the backs of 1910 T212-2 Obak cards.

As a bit of postscript here, the pack arrived yesterday and it’s 100% a fake pack (graphics are printed on computer paper and glued around a cardboard box). Unfortunately the seller has been unwilling to offer a full refund (he comically offered a 50% refund because he can’t verify I’m being truthful!) and is sticking with his no return policy. Unfortunately it looks like I’ll need eBay and my credit card company to step in, but beware in case more hit eBay and also look out for this seller!

Wow Jon, that stinks. Very disappointing that the seller isn’t being cooperative.

Hopefully Ebay takes care of this for you. Good luck….

The seller isn’t necessarily the counterfeiter. So perhaps we should hold off on quartering him until we know. But I agree he should offer a full refund.

The seller has a responsibility to assess what he is selling or clearly state " I don't know if it's genuine or not".

Except that "I don't know if it's genuine or not" is seller code for "I do know, and it's not."

Default Good luck Jon!

Good luck Jon!

That stinks that someone went to that length to deceive. Glad you can dispute it as fraud with your credit card company.

Best of luck!

Thanks all. I’m sure that between eBay and my credit card company, I’ll be made whole. Yes - that was the auction.

As to the reproduction, it’s actually quite surprising that someone took the time to try to fake a cigarette pack, but in hand, it’s so obvious (not so from the scans). The label has been printed on computer paper and wrapped around a distressed looking slide box. It’s been made to look old, but the printing on the computer paper is not crisp. Also it doesn’t feel like a lithographed box - dead giveaway. The size is also incorrect. The tax stamp is also computer printed and glued onto the top, then split along the seam. Now looking at the sellers other items, I see lots of other hand-made reproductions and fantasy pieces being sold as authentic. I have a suspicion this person knows what he is doing.

Rather elaborate attempt by the seller. It’s somewhat surprising the size is incorrect.

Default Obak

Thanks for sharing this information. The reproduction guys (fraudsters) are getting more clever, it seems. We have to watch out!

First I have seen of a fake pack. When doing the super enlarge on ebay you can tell the lithography is off and so is the writing. But I never would have suspected a fake pack. Sheesh...
