Way to bring it, Jay.

Today I will go with this Sugar Ramos promo PC.

One of those HOFers who just don't have any cards I can find.

I think that's a Jack Solomons (HOF promoter) signature too.

It is pretty striking alright. My guess is it is a Brown & Bigelow image from around 1935-1937; looks like the same photo session as these:

An Adam Hats Louis would be awesome, but I have never seen one. No African American boxers at all in the H815 run, though there is a photo of Harry Cook in an oversized 2nd generation Adam Hat premium that I've seen (not sure these are even official Adam Hats pieces). But no Louis or Armstrong, or any other AA fighter of the era.

Who doesn't want to play with boxing cards?

Here's the Ol' Master. Though Mr. Gant looks more like a master of karate or something here. Freshly liberated from an overgraded SGC 5.5 slab that it had no business whatsoever being in.

That's quite an accurate representation of Gans, except I am guessing the sash would be red-white-blue. Original photo

His Kung Fu was mightier than yours.

Whether a boxing match or a Kung-Fu bout, I just know that I don't want to be within 100 miles of Gans when a fight happens.

Here's some more for today. Top is an original N43. Bottom is a box topper from 2007 A&G, one of 15, Frazier being the only pugilist. Most of the aesthetically nice (in my biased view) modern boxing cards have been randoms like this in Allen Ginter, Goodwin etc. I don't want to spam every card in my master set builds and repeat a design too much, so here's something a little different.

Wasn’t there a Tyson one year? Think I have one somewhere.

There was a Tyson in the 2006 set, his A&G's have some value now for some reason. I don't think any of the other years have a boxer N43 box topper, though most sets have 1 or 2 boxers in the base set of varying quality (looking at you, Sonny Fredrickson).

As do most Tysons; I guess he's the most interesting living heavyweight.

Found it.

Should have picked one up when they were $10 cards. Looks like I don’t have one in my modern boxing box here.

Looks like it is about a $50 card now. Wish I'd bought ten of them back when I got mine.

Speaking of Mike:

I don't appear to have any Tyson's besides Kayo/Ringlords everyone has. So here's some Buster Douglas instead to stay on theme

And now for something completely different...

Just kidding, it's more boxing. This time a couple of hand-tinted RPPCs of French HOFers:

This is a bizarre premium I picked up several years ago for the local connection:

That's a beaut.

This issue of large format cards [about a foot square] of at least 50 fights was issued in 1928 by boxing promoter Al Young for the National Hall, a San Francisco venue.

Speaking of Willie Ritchie, here is a remarkable signed photo:

Ritchie was a long-time member of the CA state athletic commission. The dedication is to Bill Schroeder, the founder and director of a sports museum here in L.A.

Those large format San Fran cards are fantastic. How many have you been able to track down?

Around 20. My estimate of at least 50 is based on the card #s.

Has it really been 3.5 years since this thread last had a post? Best we get back to it then! For today's entry, where to start, where to start? Oh, I know. How about an only known example of a Louis trade card:

I dunno where that liquor store was, but that seems like some crappy whiskey if they sell by the gallon.

Rarely seen Cuban card of Luther McCarty, who beat Al Palzer for the inaugural World White Heavyweight Championship on Jan. 1, 1913 and was killed in his first title defense against Arthur Pelkey four months later.

Beautiful set!

I've seen one or two, but don't think I had ever seen the entire set.

That's a great one. One of my favorite cards (not many McCarty cards out there), and sets of all-time.

On the topic of the Shindana cards, the Gold-Backs were produced by "Soular Systems", which later changed its name to Shindana Toys, which produced the Red-Back cards.

Evidently, PSA does not know this (or at the very least, won't acknowledge that fact), and groups the two sets with the same label. Would be nice is the POP Report reflected the different versions.
