American Pickers LaSalle, IL
If I lived anywhere near LaSalle, I'd be heading to the recently closed Herrcke Hardware to see what other NOS sports stuff Mike and Frank left behind.

For those of us who missed the show, what kind of stuff did they find?

Daffy and Dizzy Dean kid’s uniform, new in box; Red Grange football, in box; Reach point of sale advertising; NOS balls, catchers mask, cleats, etc. They also walked right by a bat rack, loaded with bats. This place had all kinds of NOS hardware, toys, advertising and sporting goods. It had been in business since 1897.

I'd have to think it must have been months or even a year between filming the episode and it airing.

Yes because it was also the 1st episode of the new season of Pawn Stars and Rick was at the National.

I wish I had a contact! I'm only two towns over 25 minutes away but had never heard of it before the show.

The Pawn Stars episode at the National on last night sucked. Only one item of sports related a Jordan game used jersey. The rest of the stuff wasn't even sports related. Wouldn't you think your going to film at a SPORTS CONVENTION all of the items your filming for Rick to look at would be SPORTS RELATED.

If American Pickers is a little phony, Pawn Stars is completely phony.

The acting and dialogue is so bad on Pawn Stars. How have they not gotten better at it?

Last nights was a good episode. I too noticed the wooden bat rack but just because they didnt show it doesnt mean they didnt buy it and all the other sports stuff. And those awesome Reach signs have already been sold, I tried

I also really enjoyed the show last night. The Dizzy & Daffy uniform was very cool and I bet there was some really interesting advertising items buried in the piles! Also thoughts and prayers for Frank Fritz as I understand he has some real serious health issues. He sure looked frail and was not doing much heavy picking!!

He’s had that foerever. Hopefully, he just lost weight of his own accord but, yeah, fat Frank looked more robust.
I survived rectal cancer 9 years back but had to make a stop in the ER, day after Christmas. I was diagnosed with “terminal ileitis,” which could be a precursor to Crohn’s. That’s all I f**king need!

We have a couple friends with Crohn's. It kinda sucks, but has not seemed to alter their lifestyle in a significant way yet. They both seem to be able to keep it under control. Seems like once you hit 55, everybody's got something! Hope you can work through it, and turns out to be not too big a deal. |

I'm really sorry to hear that. Good luck with getting this new diagnosis figured out. If you haven't gone there yet, enlist the help of a specialist in order to keep things at bay as long as possible. BTW, you and a few others on net54 are a constant ray of positive light. I enjoy reading your sunny, enthusiastic posts. You're one of my favorites and I totally see you, man! Last edited by Scott Garner; 01-23-2020 at 04:32 AM. |

My dad is a huge collector of advertising signs, gas cans, gas and oil advertising, etc. He has been collecting that stuff since before I was alive (I am 40 now), long before it became "cool" to collect.
He has a 60x100 garage literally filled with the stuff. When the Pickers were coming to our area a few years ago, several people contacted the producers and told them about my dad's stuff. An advance scout came out and took photos of everything. We have many storage trailers on the property filled with overflow stuff and doubles and triples of some items. My dad specifically said he would not sell anything on display, but they would be free to dig through the trailers on the property. The guy went into a few trailers with me and took photos of items (granted, this wasn't "junk". There were gas pumps, signs, etc in there. The guy just seemed to be pushing items in my dad's garage. My dad said no. The guy seemed to be a nice enough guy. He videoed my dad's life story (youngest of 15 kids, both parents died by the time he was 14 and he moved in with an older sister who had 4 kids of her own by then). He went on to start a very successful area business that is still in business after 5 decades. We never heard back from the guy. He seemed to get a little ticked off when I was asking about the show and how it worked and it doesn't make sense for a show to show 2 guys driving thousands of miles on a show only to buy $600 worth of items. He said that "there's a lot of stuff that goes on behind the scenes." |
