that's a solid 2 mantle! one thing about the 53 (for me, atleast) is the lower left hand corner and how often it gets chipped and turns white. even your's w/ the corner wear doesn't display it which is a good thing, imo. cheers!

to this day, i have still yet to find my 53. it's always centering issues and a good corner or a dead centered one with a chipped up lower left corner.

Default Other rookies

I've done pretty well this year with my HOF rookie collection but now I'm starting to get into the high price district as I circle the last 10 I need...so in the meantime, I've had fun reading through Hall of Stats and other sabermetric Bill James-type hall of fames, and players I liked growing up, and have picked up a few (affordable!) rookie cards to feed the addiction. Here are a few I picked up for fun and to add to the rookie pile. Oh, and Kingman is definitely NOT a Hall of Stats guy....I always just used to love his all-power, no average stat lines every year. ANd I realize Stieb is an '80....I'm sneaking him in to the pre-80 board, don't tell anyone.

Finally checked this off my list. First card I've purchased in a long while that gave me chills to hold/own. Ha.

WillBBC,
Congrats on the Aaron rookie. I remember when my first Aaron rookie arrived. A good feeling to check that off the list.

I like the rookie cards, Carl.

I started buying up that kind of stuff a couple of years ago since that is what I collected as a kid growing up in the '80's. Unfortunately, while it was a lot of fun while I was buying the rookies in the dime and quarter boxes at card shows, when it came time to sell some to recoup some of my money, I saw the darker side of "investing" in those rookie cards. I quickly found out that nobody really cares about the stars of yesterday unless they are in the HOF. Everything else is literally "a dollar a dozen", pretty much. I don't mean to put a damper on things for you, just don't want you to go down the same road as me and potentially "waste" a lot of money. It's easy to get addicted quite quickly collecting that kind of stuff because you can pick it up so cheap compared to "book price".

Thanks Phil! I appreciate the insight. These particular cards are mostly for fun but it's kind of a shame that players who were merely very good aren't really sought after, but that does keep the prices low. I like having my HOF box and then my fun box of rookies I would have been blown away by when I was a kid.
