Any astronomers on the board?
Just curious, would you think the pattern is more Taurus or Big Dipper or Little Dipper? If you think it is another constellation, feel free to comment.

Well, I am related to two Astronomers, so...
I'll give it a shot:
Since we now know that Black Holes exist, from what I can see, so do White Holes. You are welcome |

I taught college level astronomy for over 30 years, and I never saw a linear arrangement like this anywhere, no way, no how. Only the two in the lower right are misaligned, and that's not natural. Stars appear randomly in the sky, and are arrranged into conttellations by people, who see the patterns they want to see. (Anybody who thinks Capricorn looks like a sea goat, raise your hand.) Ordinarily, stars bright enough to be visible from earth (the only ones we'd ever make into constellations) don't arrange themselves like soldiers.
I agree with Arc2q, it's mainly an insult to a wonderful card. Last edited by Theoldprofessor; 06-14-2014 at 08:38 PM. |

I'm no astronomer, but Kornheiser's "Uranus" jokes alway crack me up....predictable though they may be.

It's actually a vulgar imprecation in Braille, something to do with someone's mother.

Gosh, Brian, I am still playing dominoes on a miniature golf course. No time left for stargazing.
However I do have another theory. I am convinced that the holes would align perfectly with the gunshot holes in the walls of the Little Bohemia Lodge from the Dillinger shoot out. The first picture is a period picture of the Lodge in 1933 consistent with the probable timeline of the Weaver card's provenance. The second picture shows the pattern of holes in a small portion of the dining room, where the Weaver card undoubtedly dined. And the third picture shows the bathroom where the owner of the Weaver card was soaking it to remove the gunpowder burns from the card. It's a miracle that the card survived at all.

Oh, close so close, but I bought the card (yep, couldn't resist) so that the next time I go to the optometrist I can tell them no thanks, I brought my own eye test device.

You've pointed us toward that card before, Brian. I always figured you secretly wanted to own it and am glad you won-- now you have your Dream Weaver.

Card carrying member of the Denver Astronomical Society (that + $6 gets you a cup of coffee) and I see Taurus. Good pickup.

Reminds me of Thomas Dolby in the 80s. Blinded me with science. Or paper punch. But still asking $150 for it. Jeeez.

I hear you have a Taurus card. With some base ball player on it. I can't resist asking what you'd take for it. I offer in trade: > Three Authors cards -- two James Fenimint Cooper and one (EXTRA RARE!) Louisa May Alcott (booger variation); > Spence authenticated Joe Orlando autograph (sorry, Dawn couldn't make it); > Lugnut took offa Danica Patrick's Morris Minor Deal? |
