I think the seller was pleasantly surprised

the seller told me he heard that the pennant was worth $5-6K.
So maybe he was surprised. But not pleasantly. |

For more on "The Reproduction Company" and printing onto felt pennants... Read towards the bottom of page 434. This book has been digitized, and is from 1913...
http://books.google.com/books?id=5ww...nnants&f=false Tag on reverse is completely legit |

In a response to a question of mine, the owner referred to the defect as a water stain; after asking (twice) if it went through to the back and if he could please take a picture, I never heard back from him. That's what scared me away.

Yup.. The info is all at our fingertips (almost...)
Seller was not world-class. The description was awful, there were no "key words" in the title, and there was no reference to the importance of the pennant. Plus, the seller was non-responsive and provided crappy photos. I would not be surprised to see this one make a repeat appearance in REA or Heritage... at double the price. I could see the faint water stain under the white "smudge".... but all things considered, the condition looked pretty good. Most from this era are destroyed by moths, or have rips, tears, holes, fading, etc. My gosh... promote and sell the damn thing a little! it's from the Tinker/Evers/Chance era, for Pete's sake. I know she found it in her parents' basement, but you've got to make some sort of effort |

I based my assumption on all the work he put into his title and description: http://www.ebay.com/itm/vintage-cubs...vip=true&rt=nc
