Default Looking for help with this cabinet ID. Boston Red Sox? Braves? Carl Horner?

I bought this cabinet of a Boston player that was identified as Red Morgan of the 1906 Red Sox. But I don't think it really is Red Morgan or if the 1906 date is right. Does anyone recognize this player? Any help is much appreciated. It looks like a Horner cabinet to me but the auction listed "Homer." Can't tell from their scan and don't have it in hand yet but I know Horner was Boston based and it looks like one of his mounts.

I can't help with the player ID but it definitely looks like a Horner cabinet. Horner is usually in script so someone mistakenly thought it said Homer I assume.

And the uniform style certainly looks like a Red Sox one I have seen before.

Great item regardless of player!

Your cabinet looks similar in style to this 1907 Horner...

The photo on your card does not look like it matches the photo of Red Morgan on Baseball-Reference's Red Morgan page.

I posted this over on the memorabilia side, but see that packs posted his question here as well, so I'll just copy/paste:

Mark can chime in with more specific info, but I believe that is Chick Evans, not Red Morgan. That particular photo was the subject of one of the SABR Mystery Photo Supplements.

Also noted here, toward the bottom of the page:

That is an interesting link to photo id's. I wonder if they ever found out who was pictured on the 1890s Cleveland cabinet from the same thread page. It is not Sticker or McAleer.

Here was the auction on the Horner...

www.ebay.com/itm/271284399126

I read the listing while it was active and wondered about the description that was credited to Olbermann.

It resembles in style a Horner cabinet but his name is almost always on the mount of his originals.

My guess is if his name is not somewhere on the photo is it's not a Horner original.

I'm pretty sure its Chick Evans of the Boston Doves. There is a photographer listed on the bottom corner, but since I don't have the cabinet in hand yet I'm not sure what it says. The auction listed the photographer stamp as "Homer" but I'm confident it reads Horner. Will know soon for sure.

It is Chick Evans with Boston NL. I wrote about it here (page 16):

BTW - that newsletter is (I think) a really good issue with respect to the subject of identifying faces. If you like this stuff please consider supporting SABR by joining.

RCMcKenzie - the Cleveland player on the OOTP site remains unidentified.

Mark, thank you for clarifying which issue/page the article was in. I'll second the recommendation for joining SABR. If you like ANY kind of baseball research, there's probably a SABR committee for it Plus, membership includes access to The Sporting News archives, which is worth the annual fee in itself.

Which also reminds me, I need to re-up my own membership
