Default 1977 Topps back oddities

Either Mickey Mantle hit 17 or 18 home runs, but the editors at Topps weren't sure in 1977.

Was Bob Bailey's cartoon ever corrected?

Where did you get the back scan of the 18? I don't see any with 18 on COMC, so it probably is a UER.

Just looked at tommy Smith there, and the first one is 18.

In other related stuff.... Are 77 Topps Commons really 1.45 or more each?

Sorry, didn't notice they were two different card numbers. Eyes went straight to the Mantle drawing. You would be surprised what sells on COMC. It all comes down to how many are on site, and if people are looking for them and can toss them into an order. Maybe the player is doing an autograph signing and a dealer comes through and buys 50 of his cards from COMC to have available at the signing. Maybe he became a kid's favorite teacher after he stopped playing baseball. Maybe he's an uncle or grandfather now, and his relatives collect his cards.
I sell hundreds of dollars in modern cards of pet dogs on COMC. So it's whatever the market will bear. There are over 5,000 different sellers there. We all seem to have different pricing strategies.

No problem, I thought it would be about some variation or printing issue, and spent a bit looking for that before I read the post.

I hadn't thought of those things about why a card might be more than expected.
I was a bit excited about that price....
Now I'm intrigued about pet dog cards...

Ahh... the joys of ADD.

You all can thank the Corona lockdown for these posts.... I found a 77 Topps set in a box, and put it into a binder......

A few more backs oddities.

4 of the cartoons are "Double Printed" on different players cards.

They are a bit hard to read, but Denny Martinez, Early Wynn, Hank Bauer and the Yankees got a double shout out.

Give me a call sometime and I'll tell you all about it. Here is a sampling of just one group of dog cards I've sold at $2.50 each. These come from Upper Deck's ePack website, where you buy "packs" and open them online. Some inserts (like the Puppy cards) are real and you can trade on UD's site or transfer and sell them on COMC. These blue variant cards are ePack exclusives where you have to collect 20 of the digital copy of the base card in packs or through trading, then convert those digital cards into a real foil version of the card. The puppies sell for between 50 cents and a few dollars. The blue foils are selling quickly for me at $2.50 each. The UD Canine Collection set is one of the few you can actually turn a profit on ePack, IMO. Most of it is just degenerate gambling (hockey, some of the Marvel) and you're better just purchasing it for flipping on the COMC site directly.
