Default Dealers with the largest vintage inventories on eBay, Beckett

I'm building a 1968 set now and I've exhausted the supply of cards I need from Burbank, Mantlerulz and Battersbox.

Any other suggestions for dealers with large inventories? The prices don't have to be the absolute lowest - at this point I'm looking for dealers from which I can pick up 20, 30, 40 at a time rather than three here, one there, seven there, etc. The shipping and the time spent is killing me.

comc.com is on eBay as comc_consignment but you're much better off ordering directly on their website.
You might try out sportlots.com as well, but they're not on eBay.

On eBay, you're paying at least 99 cents per common, so why not pay a bunch less on COMC? Set collectors was the reason it was created in the first place.

Unless you are in a hurry. On 10-4 I bought 4 slightly different versions of the 85 Fleer Dave Stewart card on the COMC site after it was mentioned, I think by Larry, in the long variations thread. Ship date given is 12-29. Costs more to buy off their ebay listings but you usually get it sooner.

Deans cards lists a fairly big inventory for 68, both on ebay and their site. His prices tend high but delivery and service are top notch

You could still bank the savings and get it quicker from the COMC site if you just upgrade shipping to the fastest option (or even the second fastest option). eBay sales automatically upgrade you to COMC premium shipping, it's just embedded in the cost.

I have bought a lot from him, but not on ebay. Front and back scans. Good service. Big inventory. OP said prices do not have to be the lowest, and Dean fits that to a T .

But I get it, how in the world do sellers like Dean, 707 and Yepdog stay in business....for all these years while collectors come and go ? Seems like maybe two dozen threads in here wondering about it . But you need not duck Peter, you are in the majority. I am the one likely needing to duck.

Just finished my 49 Bowman PCL set today thanks to Levi, and was happy with the price too :-)

As John said, Sportlots.com is an option for set builders. I have used them extensively over the years and you can save a ton of money over eBay. Be warned, however, that most listings do not include pictures/scans (although you can filter results to include those that do). Overall, I have been pleased with the site, but the sellers can be very inconsistent with their assigned grades. I typically look for a minimum of EX for my sets, but have received several cards that were listed as EX but were G-VG at best. Having said that, 99% of the sellers provided credit when I brought it to their attention. There is an established process on the site for disputed grades, etc.

Good luck

Thanks all - with the late 60s sets I'm looking for EX-MT. I just went to Sportlots and bought 20 or so - good prices for the most part, some SPs priced higher than normal commons but not as high as eBay and at least they actually had them. I hope these come back really Ex-Mt - I have had occasional issue with a couple dealers there before, though I can't recall which ones, where I get a card advertised as ExMt and it comes EX at Best.

And when talking about Deans - yes, keep you head down.

I'll admit I've never purchased from him, and I'll grant him the best customer service on Earth. I just can't see how he survives with some of those prices - I have to believe no one will EVER buy a 1978 Topps baseball set for $2,000 regardless of how he says it'll grade (making this price point up for an example). But, there's all kinds in the hobby these days, so you never know.

Back when I was sending out a lot of TTMs, I picked up this JW Porter from Sportslots. It was listed as Good, and when I got it, I realized why the seller was letting it go for $1 plus shipping. I more amused when I saw it than anything else, so I didn't make an issue of it, and when I received it back from Mr. Porter, he enclosed a custom card of his own and a note saying he felt so bad about the condition of mine that he wanted me to have the custom as well. When I've stacked it on top of a less-damaged card, it looks more oval-shaped than rectangular.

I'm not saying don't use Sportslots, just as mentioned, lack of scans and inconsistent sellers can lead to surprises.
