Default August Pickup Thread

Picked up this wildly off-centered 1980 Topps card on a whim. What it lacks in star power...it also lacks from a quality control perspective.

Been a slow summer getting a ton of home projects finished, but the mail box is starting to fill up again.

I got this in the mail today.I am so beyond happy to add this to my personal collection. I have been trying to buy this card for many years from the previous owner. A very long time collecting friend has decided to sell his entire collection because of his age. Says he doesn't want to burden wife/kids when he passes.

Arrived today. He's having a heck of a season in what is very likely a hall of fame career.

I assume this is not just the regular error card but some rare version?

Yes it is known as the Mystery Card version. I believe there are around 40 known copies. I have owned 3 graded by PSA.

This one is special to me because it was a friends card that we had discussed many many times over the years.

Can you point out what's unique about it?

There is a pretty good description on this website dedicated to the 89 Fleer Bill Ripken card. http://billripken.com/

Click on the versions link and then go to Mystery Card #1. The PSA 8 in the link used to be mine. I think they are 100% counterfeit but what do I know about counterfeit cards.

Very cool on the FF Ripken, thanks for sharing.

I have one of those at PSA right now - should see it by 2025. Hopefully.

Is it the Mystery Card version? They have been rejecting them as Questionable Authenticity but a few have gotten through. There are 6 in PSA slabs that I know of. One 7, two 8s, two 9s, and one I can't remember the grade on.

Did you send it in with other 89 Fleer? If so it will definitely get rejected but if not you have a chance on it getting past their world class() graders.

Congrats on Kershaw and Bonds. Both of those are cards I have looked at acquiring.

Default I always forget about this section

Here are a few I've gotten recently. I apologize for the size, not sure how to shrink 'em. I don't usually go after autographs, but this particular project would be too easy without them.

Picked up these "Early 90's Fun" cards via auction for $115.25 total (avg of just under $10.50 each). Good times!
