Couldn't pass this one up. Such a nice autograph of a Giant legend. FB_IMG_1604941704826.jpg

Good one, Sean!
I was eyeballing that one as well & it is a nice example of his signature.

Thanks Scott! Yeah he seems more difficult to find than he should be. I think he falls just under the radar on people having mailed to him for autograph requests very much.

Cabinet photo of Lucien Mérignac. He won a gold medal in Individual Foil Masters at the 1900 Olympics in Paris. This was signed in July, 1894 one month after the meeting in Paris to revive the Olympic Games. The inscription says: 'To Mr. Caublot as a souvenir from one fencer to another' Mérignac died in 1941 in Paris. This is the oldest Olympic signature I have come across and the first before the revival of the games. I found this on ebay while doing non-traditional searches for photos to add to my archives. I got it in the mail yesterday and two European collectors already want it.

Congrats Michael. That's one heck of a find. It's amazing what pops up when doing non-traditional searches or even misspelled searches.

Thank you both. I look for photos and autographs in all Olympic sports. That increases the number of words I can use for random searches. The results when I use certain words can be amusing. When I search 'fencing' in photos I get hundreds of results where most of the photos are people standing against a fence or a house with a picket fence. All equestrians and most shooting competitors prior to WWII were military. Additionally, many Olympians in the well known sports went to college. This helps when searching in the military and paper categories under collectibles.

My first actual player used bat. Apparently was used in Bp and was given as a gift to a friend of his.
