Default Would you buy Aaron Hernandez's Championship rings?

Some day, maybe soon, maybe years from now, Aaron Hernandez's championship rings will probably be coming to auction.

He has been awarded a 2011 Patriots championship ring (similar to the one shown below), and at least two rings while playing college football at Florida (a 2009 BCS National Championship ring and a 2008 SEC championship ring).

A while back, a Jerry Sandusky championship ring landed on ebay and the idea of owning a ring from that monster turned my stomach and many others too. I don't know if that ring ever sold or was taken down from ebay.

So what do the net54baseball.com readers think? Could you see yourself or other collectors bidding on a Hernandez ring?

What if you were a collector, trying to build a collection of every Patriots ring, and you needed that particular ring for your collection? If you pass on the ring, you might not see another ring from the same year for sale for years. Would that change your thoughts on this matter?

I wouldn't have a problem owning it (apart from the fact it is a Patriots ring). In essence, you owning the ring is like an additional punishment to him. If he wasn't in jail, he'd be walking around with it on his finger. He is in jail, so you'd be the one walking around with it.

I would have no interest owning a murderer's ring. Now another former criminal's ring, like say Denny McClain, that'd be a whole different story. Quirky criminal athletes are fascinating. Murderers are murderers and I want nothing to do with them.

I would have no problem owning his ring even though it is butt ugly and the Cheatriots are the reason I quit watching football entertainment.

Default Have O.J.'s rings or anything come to auction?

I'd think so.

Same question would apply there.

I never thought of it in terms of it being an additional punishment; I like that thinking!

I would not have a problem obtaining Hernandez's ring, especially, if similar to OJ Simpson's situation, the money went towards the victims (I believe Hernandez has been convicted of killing one person, and allegedly killing two others).

On the other hand, even if the money was going to Sandusky's victims, I could not ever see acquiring one of his rings.

Yes, his Heisman was seized under the 33.5 million civil judgement and auctioned in 1999 for $230,000.

Being Jewish myself, I hope I don't get slammed for this - There was a joke going around at the time - Who was the first Jewish person to win the Heisman trophy?

Answer: Fred Goldman
