Default 61 and 70 topps AS

Now when I was falling asleep in my coumpter chair looking up vintage baseball cards for my personal collection I was woundering why 1961 Topps AS has the same desigin except for the boarder on the 1970s? Was this a error by topps or did they not have have any ideas for a desigin on the 1970 topps as cards?

Default 1970 Topps

Not sure why that design was repeated but they also included Lou Piniella's rookie card..for the fourth time ( 1964, 1968, 1969 previously) And, Wally Wolf also shows up on a "rookie" card, 7 years after his first one in 1963, even though he never pitched in the majors until 1969.

Card 59 shows Ellsworth in a Cub uniform ( airbrushed cap) where he had not been in 3 years. Card 6 shows Grant Jackson pitching with a batting glove. Card 407 shows Watson looking for a fly ball with a catchers mitt. Dal Maxvill in 503 is fielding in a batting helmet. And, three of the 8 playoff cards show games other than described.

Not Topps best effort

Very interesting info, and info I never knew of before. Perhaps Topps was tight on money that year? Or they were running late on deadlines? Whatever it may be, it was definitely a lazily done or hurried set. I wonder how many other years that they had similar issues? I've noticed duplicated photos before from year to year, but haven't noticed stuff like you mention. I'll be watching for it now though.

Thanks,
Tom

I think it's like the old sitcoms where they used the same cameo actor to play different roles, in different episodes, throughout the series run. They never could have imaged the level of scrutiny payed to these things in the future. A nine year gap was another generation of kid collector.

For the record, a second "go around" was fine with me, I love those cards.
