Default O/T Football Issue & Player ID??

Any idea on this? Was told it was late 1890s football, but who knows. Not much more than an inch in size. No markings on back. Thanks in advance

Default Known as 1915 PM1 Ornate Frame Pins

Known as 1915 PM1 Ornate Frame Pins!

From REA Auction description: "PM1s are one of the most distinctive and popular of all early baseball pin issues. Sometimes referred to as the "fancy border pin set" because of their ornately designed mounts, each PM1 pin features an oval-shaped photo of the respective player in uniform. In recent years it has been recognized that the set was not issued only in 1915, but based on the players and their team affiliations apparently was issued over a period of several years (circa 1915-1919). Approximately twenty-six players are currently checklisted in the set, which continues to expand even at this late date (a number of significant new discoveries have been made over the past several years, including an astounding relatively newly discovered Babe Ruth)."

Thank you John & Patrick! That information really helps.

I see some when I google 1951 PM1 pin, though most have a player's name ascribed to them. That being said, does anybody recognize the player on my pin? Thanks.

What a wonderful piece. I think the uniform (or what can be seen of it) places the photo to be from the 1890s era. That doesn't mean the pin isn't from the 1910-15 era, but check the uniforms on this (and many other) college football team photos from 1895-ish.

That is just a cameo photo pin of a football player and probably not related to the baseball set. That football uniform is also earlier than 1910-15. It was almost certainly something made by a local photographer where that guy lived and could be any one of thousands of college players c. 1890's. A cool piece but not related to the baseball pins most likely.

Default Same frame as PM1 baseball players

The frames look identical to the PM1 baseball players.

Question is whether the football image is original to the frame.

Maybe the OP gets lucky and opens the back of the pin up and finds a baseball player photo under the football player......

Is the football player from the Mayo Cut Plug set? That's the first place I would check. But yes, if it's a post-production addition, it could have the baseball player underneath and a soak (if it was glued in with paste glue) would reveal that.
Was the pinback sold as blanks?

Where was it found?

I guess if it was me, I'd start with the late 1890s yearbook photos from the major football schools at the time: Harvard, Yale, Princeton, Rutgers...

I think Bob is correct--late 1800s football, as I was told.

But unfortunately I think this is correct too:
"That is just a cameo photo pin of a football player and probably not related to the baseball set"

The PM1 pins typically have six decorative swirly-type things around the perimeter, whereas mine has nine. The swirly-type things on the PM1s also appear a bit heavier/thicker than they do on mine. They are close, but there are definitely differences.

John: I acquired it in Ottawa, Canada.

Thanks for the help gentlemen--much appreciated.
