Default July 4th, 1939 75th Anniversary of Lou Gehrig's Farewell

If my math is correct today is the 75th anniversary of Lou Gehrig's farewell speech at Yankee Stadium. "Today I consider myself the luckiest man on the face of the earth."

Perhaps one of the finest gentleman to ever play our great game. I wish I had a card to show, how about all of you lucky guys that can do that post a few in honor of Lou!

Going to the Twins / Yanks game today at Target field. They're having a Gehrig bobblehead give away.

Even tough Gehrig appreciated all the gifts and all the fans and friends that attended his ceremony between games of the doubleheader vs the Senators, he had a hard time handling his farewell speech. He broke down a few times during his speech. The sad part is after his speech, he immediately left the stadium and went home. He never came back to Yankee Stadium again.

Default Gehrig Patch

Here is the patch that MLB teams wore on their uniforms yesterday (July 4). This one is a bit off-center to the left:

My all time favorite player, and one of the only athletes worthy of being called a hero. As a departure from pre-war cards, here are a couple original sketch cards of Lou I have had done:

Default Captain Lou

I guess I have some for this occasion too. Sorry I am late to the party. Below are some top Gehrig original photos in my collection.
