Default 59 topps mays/ashburn question

hi- I've noticed over the years that many of the 59 mays/ashburn cards have the same print mark over mays' left shoulder- like an A without the line going across.

Anybody know anything about that?

Default 1959 Variation

That defect exist in a great % of these cards. Not sure what % but they are easy to spot on ebay. There was a trade article that mentioned it and it may have been discussed on this board or CU too. It is not listed in the SCD Standard Catalog; nor are the Ramos and Drabowsky front border defects, all 3 of which I think are more notable than the 3d Sullivan period variation which is listed ( JMO).

I did send a copy of all 3 to Bob Lemke. The Ramos in a PSA 8 is often listed on ebay with no mention of the defect in the PSA holder at an astronomical price, but I got it and the Drabowsky ungraded on ebay for normal prices. There is usually no price difference on the Mays Ashburn either because they both are so common...and little recognized to boot
