Default 1910 Brush TIgers Cards and DiMaggio mystery

Posted By: SCD Don

Hi guys!

Need your help. A reader sent me in a mystery dimaggio reprint I can't identify (I need to tell him it's not a $20,000 rarity and break his heart, but that's why they pay me the small bucks, ha ha) and if someone could tell me when it was reprinted and what company did it, that would help me out a lot.

Also have an interesting question on 1910 Brush Automobile Advertising Postcards. We now have 10. And it appears they were using the 1908 Tigers roster. Do we change the date in the catalog off this new evidence? Can someone show me why they are called 1910 and should remain so.

Thanks a lot--go to

standardcatalog.wordpress.com

and please register your relevant comments. I will be shoveling more blog entries up to the site in the next couple week, I've been a little scarce around the blog the last month I know but I got a backlog of questions that have filtered in (and today finally a new scanner I can finally start making pictures of stuff people are sending me in the US Mail...scans of inkjet prints, oh joy!!!!!)

Default 1910 Brush TIgers Cards and DiMaggio mystery

Hi Don, this particular DiMaggio card was issued in 1977. It is usually called 1977 1941 Playball reprint. The entire reprint set consisted of the 1941 Playball set, about 6 fantasy cards of which the DiMaggio is one, and a few 1940 Playball cards reprinted. I actually just bought this reprint set in December for about $8. Randy

Ive owned a couple of the Brush cards in the past but I cant remember if they were used. I think they were but I have no record of the postmark.

The best way to date them is to find some that were used with a postmark. You wouldnt want to say 1909... and then later find some postmarked 1908 and have to change the date again.

Id probably put 1908-10, unless you can find one postmarked.

Don- There will be a set of these coming up in REA. You should ask rob if he can send you the scans of the backs. I'm sure some of them were postaly used. Good luck.. Dan Kravitz

I agree you must find a card with a postmark on it and this would definitely help. I believe you will find out the date is 1908. The Cobb card states" He won a pennant for us last fall". Sounds like the first pennant to me ( referring to the 1907 season). If it was a 1910, it should have said " He has lead us to three pennants in a row" or something similiar.
