Default My favorite low budget HOFers from the 1950s-60s ... what are some of yours?

Note: I like interactive posts/threads, so I decided to create one.

I'm just getting into vintage and am focusing on graded vintage, and I like asking others what some of their favorite cards are from that era. I like Brooklyn Dodgers, 1957 Topps, 1958 Topps and then guys like Mays and Aaron, like everyone else. I am not a fan of the larger cards (i.e. 1956 Topps or the smaller cards, i.e. 1952 Bowman).

Also, I can't afford the ultra high-end, thousand-dollar cards. So, I've been focusing on mid-grade multiplayer HOFer cards that features 2+ HOFers on the same card. I've got some of the ones I like the best listed down below.

So what are some of y'all favorite 1950s-1960s HOFers (single player or multiplayer cards)?

Some of my favorite multi-player cards (and ones I'll be focusing on picking up):
1962 Topps Mays-Mantle (was the first ever vintage card I owned);
1963 Topps Mays-Musial;
1965 Topps Mantle Cluch Homer;
1958 Topps Snider-Mays;
1958 Topps Williams-Kluszewski;

Years of interest where I like the design (so I'll be trying to collect pretty much any HOFer from these years that's within my budget):
1957 Topps;
1958 Topps;
1965 Topps;

I've always liked the 1966 Topps NL Batting leaders card with Clemente, Aaron, and Mays.

When I first started thinking of getting into vintage, I was going to avoid multiplayer cards at all costs. But as I've been thinking about it, it's pretty cool to have multiple HOFers on 1 card. I know they're worth way less than single player cards, but they're still nice to have if you think about it. That's why I've got things like the '57T Berra/Mantle, '58T Mantle/Aaron, '58T Mays/Snider and other things like that.

Oh man, there are some great cards during those years. Just a few that I'm fond of and are reasonably priced (in no particular order):
  • 1957 Topps #400 Dodgers Sluggers
  • 1962 Topps #232-237 World Series Cards
  • 1962 Topps #311-319 Highlight Cards (Kubek, Spahn, Maris, Colivato, Ford,
    Killebrew, Musial, Mantle, McCormick)
  • 1962 Topps #53 AL HR Leaders
  • 1965 Topps #377 Willie Stargell
  • 1967 Topps #337 Joe Morgan (along with 1971)
  • 1959 Topps Various multiplayer cards
  • 1964 Topps Giants - all the cards

Thanks for the response. Yes, I loved the 1962 Topps set. I built that set back about 10 years ago before selling it off to fund a trip to Disney World. The '62 LL with Mantle and Maris is a nice card for a low budget collector who can't afford all the higher end Mantles. Also, I like the Dodgers Sluggers. I night actually collect the entire team set that year since it was their last in Brooklyn.

There's some great photos in the 1957 Topps Dodgers - Campy, Furillo, Snider, Reese.....

And the last year with a 'B' on their cap.

I love this card and want it. But I don't understand why it's such an expensive card. Isn't this just another action shot card like all the others? And it's not a RC or last year card. So why expensive? Cause he played for the Dodgers? But Campy and other players don't go for this high. So just curious.

The Reese has carried a big premium for decades just because people love the picture, it’s become an iconic card and gets the resulting price bump as more collectors want one. I would say it’s not an action shot like others because cards mostly did not use action photographs for another couple decades (Some exhibits did, can’t think of many others). While it’s a staged photo and not a game shot, it’s a level of action that really stands out in 50’s Topps/Bowman and looks unique.

Personally, I think it’s kind of cool a card carries a premium just for being cool instead of being a big name rookie for once.

I'm glad I picked up a copy some years ago now as it has really grown in popularity it seems.

I'd like to get this one too. And it looks like you can get a well centered 5 or 5.5 for under $100. I think it's just the PSA/SGC 7s and on up. I guess lots of people like ot build really high end, nice sets. Not me. I just get it in the best possible grade I can get, which is usually a 4-6.
