Dan, I remember seeing one Peach model glove. Mastro sold one of these advertisements a few years back as well. It's really an impressive item. Some **** will probably reproduce it now. |

They featured one on the Antiques Road Show. It wasn't for sale, but was at a museum or archive and they talked about it for a bit. If the eBay example is real and in decent shape, the $18,000 is probably low. |

I saw this when it was first listed and I tried to find anything I could about "Peach" gloves and came up with nothing. One would think with that many players endorsed that there would be something on the internet, but I sure couldn't find anything. |

Maybe it was produced early in the Reach company's history? For legal reasons (another J. Reach Company?) the glove company had to use another name and Peach was close. Then, after the disagreement was settled (glove maker paid other company for rights to use name) Reach was used from there forward. |

In 2001 a Peach ad display sold for over $35k in a MastroNet auction. |

Thats a sort of humorous estimate given the final hammer price and the price history of the piece. Where was Reach based out of? Since this "Peach" Co was based out of Gloversville NY, is that a match? |

Kling in a Boston uniform dates this to late 1911 or 1912 if that helps. |

The well known glove maker Ken-Wel started in Gloversville NY around 1910 before moving just down Rt. 90 to Utica. Many leading players used and endorsed their gloves over the years. There may be some tie there. I don't think Reach ever had operations in Gloversville. I have never seen a "Peach" glove - I don't think it was a real company. Maybe this was Reach's parody response to the growing competiton of the upstart, yet successful, Ken Wel Co. |

I think it's a parody of Reach also....look at the city...."Gloversville".....certainly not a real city where gloves are made.....Neat poster though... |

I agree it's a parody, but Leon, Gloversville is a very real city in NY where one of the best known and widely collected glove makers in history, Ken Wel, was based originally. The name is merely a coincidence. I believe the town was founded by the "Glovers" family", and has nothing to do with baseball gloves. |

I seem to remember Rob Mucha mentioning Peach gloves on his site. It may be a real manufacturer. |

I had a feeling the fellas on the baseball glove forum would have the answer. Peach is definately a manufacturer and here is the glove to prove it. |

Well, someone got a good deal on that sign...I wonder if we'll see it again soon? And to think I thought I had a chance at it when it was still without a single bid the day before it ended. And the auction company clearly didn't know what they had either when they estimated it at $600-800. |

Given the short period of time for Peach's existence, I wonder if litigation brought down the company, either by Reach bringing a passing off action (the names being too similar and likely to confuse) or perhaps from Peach getting players to "endorse" a product when in fact the endorsements weren't obtained. |

At that time, you could probably contact a player and ask to use his image for $100 even if he never touched your product. |

I placed the first ebay bid Thursday & thought that I might of had a chance too. Obviously some floor bidders came to place some serious bids & bid they did. I watched the auction live on Ebay & was hoping to increase my max bid but found out in a hurry that the floor was going to take it. Does anyone know if you can increase your Ebay bid once the live auction begins? Like I said, I was going to attempt it but the floor bidding shot into the multiple thousand range very quickly. Thanks |

You can bid in the live auction...there will be a button on the screen that says something like "Bid in the live auction" and you click on that it will open a new window with the auction and there will be a "bid now" button. I've won lots of stuff on ebay live by bidding that way. You have to be fast on the trigger though as sometimes the floor action is so fast that they don't catch your bid. |

I saw the "BID NOW" square & assumed I could bid, but the floor bid jumped so high so quick I didn't have a chance to test it. |
