I do love the N162 Kelly. One day I need to pick one up.

I only own a handful of 19th century cards, so I'll show 'em all!

Went through my safety deposit box yesterday and found this. I didn't even know I had it. I think my dad bought it for me at some point. Don't know if it's rare, common or what.

In early 1888 Allen & Ginter commenced inserting The World Champions (N28) cards into their 10 cigarette Richmond Brand Cigarette packs. The promotion was an overwhelming success. Later in 1888 two newly designed World Champions cards were introduced. The replacement (N29) cards were inserted into the 10 cigarette packs and the (N43) cards were inserted into the 20 cigarette packs. All three sets consist of 50 cards in each set.

Shown with the Allen & Ginter 1888 N43 Set is an image of the Richmond Brand cigarette mother pack of these cards and a few tickets (coupons) that were also inserted.

Amongst my favorites are Goodwin & Co. variations which can be tough when the team you collect was only around for the first 2 years of issue.

And one of my favorite cabinets, a black mount N173 of Hardy together with all 3 N172 poses (sorry, 2nd time posting in same number of months).

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

In 1888 Goodwin and Company challenged Allen & Ginter by inserting the Goodwin Champions (N162) cards into their Old Judge & Gypsy Queen Cigarette packs.

Shown with this baseball sub set is an image of a Gypsy Queen Cigarette mother pack and a redemption ticket (coupon) for a World's Champions Album.

Thanks Bruce, your SF Hess would be one of my favorites.

I must say I enjoyed every post to this thread, it died too soon. I found myself hoping more posts would show-up each visit.

Hey Leon, how about posting your 1897 Chickering Boston team cabinet? The one where it looks like Charlie Ganzel's disproportionate head is hoisted on someones tall frame (Kevin Cummings & I speculated it was Mahoney, the guy Ganzel replaced, who stood 6'-2").

I'd love to see more 19th century pieces.

Best Regards,
Joe Gonsowski

A few of mine. I need to scan a few other things I own. First are Yale Murphy cabinet cards, Pach and Newsboy. Second is a trimmed large size Gypsy Queen card. Third, my Old Judge cards including Anson, Ewing and Rusie.

I couldnt let the thread go off the first page,so for Joe G who is the man when it comes to OJ info i present the Pittsburgh Pirates(then known as the Alleghenies) first ever lineup in the NL,from 4/30/87:

Abner Dalrymple-lf
Tom Brown-cf
Doggie Miller-c
Sam Barkley-2b
John Coleman-rf
Alex McKinnon-1b
Art Whitney-3b
Pop Smith-ss
Pud Galvin-p

Edited to fix the position for Barkley from 1b to 2b,they only needed one firstbaseman even back then

Leon - Do you still have the 1897 Chickering Boston team cabinet? See comments above.

Kevin, gotta love the Studio cabinets, Deacon White, Weyhing (is that Cannonball or John?).

John, thanks for showing the entire starting 9 for Pittsburgh the first year they were in the League. Great stuff.
