Default Cell Phone/PDA - Buying Cards Experience

Posted By: Todd C

I was thinking of adding internet to my wireless device.

Wanted some collectors experiences with

1. Ease of use ?
2. Picture quality ?
3. Search/Browsing

The card addict just can't wait to get home or work to use the computer and place bids on eBay or the auction houses.

Of course this isn't for use while driving but:

1. At the in-laws
2. On lunch break
3. I can make my wife drive while I bid on cards (-=

Comments would be appreciated...

I was bidding in the REA extended bidding period on my iphone while sipping coffee in Barnes and Noble on a Friday night.

Doesn't get much better than that.

Same here, I"m sure other smartphones are similar, but I can do virtually everything on my iphone that I can do on a laptop. It's enabled me to travel a lot lighter at shows, since I can lookup scans, vcp, dealer sites, etc.
Image quality is as good or better than a laptop, and while it's a bit clunkier typing than on a regular keyboard it's not bad.

The new 3G iPhone comes out July 11th. If you get a smartphone, I would wait until it comes out. It will be the best phone on the market. Alot faster then the edge network and comes with built in GPS. Also, you can get a 8gb for $199. It's beautiful. (lol)

Todd -

I believe you need the full blown internet interface to be able to load complete oddball websites like REA, Mastro etc. Everything other than the iphone has a scaled down mobile version of webpages.

Someone correct me if I am wrong.

This past Thursday I was on a plane coming home right around the time Scott and Leons auction was ending. I was able to enter bids as I got off the plane and watch the auction close while in my car on the way back home. AWESOME! I ended up winning two lots because of it. I love i-net on the phone.

and it works great for internet usage........I want an Iphone but I've got TOO many phones on my Sprint account to switch over right now and I don't want two bills. I have unlimited internet usage and check gmail, net54, weather, stock quotes, etc routinely on it and it works great. Reply to emails, etc......and no problems. Have had it about 15-18 months now........only problem I've found is with battery life. You can buy an extended replacement battery off ebay for about $10-$12 versus the overpriced batteries the stores sell..........

I've had just about all of the smart phones...
The treo, the blackberry, and something from motorola whose name escapes me.

I now have the iPhone.

It is by far.... by leaps and bounds.... by an incredible margin..... a much better smart phone than any I have tried.
Anyone considering a smart phone should consider the iPhone.

jmho.

What is a ball park figure for unlimited internet access monthly charge on the iphone? I've been thinking about getting one for the exact features mentioned.

The unlimited data package for the iphone (email and internet) is currently $20 extra per month, but is going up to $30. for the 3G phones.
I think there is a basic amount of text messages included in that, so basically the only difference between a regular cell phone and an iphone is the $30 charge (along with the $200 cost of the phone, which has dropped by 2/3 since a year ago)

The downsides of the current iphones?
Can't change out the battery
The ringer is pretty quiet
It won't load sites written in Flash.

The new one is supposed to address the flash issue, the battery still won't be able to be changed out, hopefully the ringer will improve.
Upsides? Tons, and with the new one having full gps you can probably forego the Garmin (previously the worlds greatest gadget)

is that the Iphone is limited to AT&T for another 3-4 years. That sucks. Plain and simple. But, it is what it is. With so many phones on my account, I just don't want to switch. I do get a corporate discount with AT&T, just like Sprint, but just don't want to have to switch it all over. My 16 year old has the new Ipod Touch and I know a lot of the same functionality is built into the Iphone and I'd have to agree it's pretty cool. I think once Iphone gets into the 30-60GB models, it may be enough to persuade me to move over. I could get rid of my 30GB Ipod then.

Are they going to a 32GB model with the 3G? I know they have 8/16.

I recently bought an Apple laptop and I have to admit it SMOKES all the PC laptops I've had over the years. I've gotten quickly used to the operating system and love it. I had an Apple IIe around 1984 and no Apples in between.............
