Default Random Weirdness for the Day

Is #123 the greatest number in Topps History for Rookies?

Baseball - 1955 Topps #123 Sandy Koufax
Basketball - 1970 Topps #123 Pete Maravich
Football - 1984 Topps #123 Dan Marino
Hockey - 1987 Topps #123 Adam Oates

3 All-time greats and a slam dunk HOF'er

I love finding weird #$%&*! like this.

Sorry it's not pre-war, but too cool not to share.

Here's another interesting Topps #:

George Atkinson's nickname is Dr. Death. His 1973 Topps card is #187. Penal Code section 187 is the California murder statute. So Dr. Death has a murder card.

While it's a Bowman, Topps owned the company and its logo is on the back.

I'm making this up, but it very well could/should be true. Carlton Fisk and Steve Carlton are the only two players named "Carlton" to ever appear on a baseball All-Star card.
(Now watch as someone immediately refutes it. )

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

I like your style! Your post made me actually look it up and I think you're safe.

Burt Hooton's middle name was Carlton and he was an all-star in 1981. But, we all know he didn't go by Carlton and a quick search of eBay shows the only thing he appeared on as an All-Star was a 1992 Trak Auto Los Angeles Dodgers All-Star stamp, which is not a card.

Tex Hughson's middle name was also Carlton (and, actually, his first name was Cecil). He was an All-Star for three straight year from 1942-1944 but not on a baseball All-Star card, that I know of anyway.

And Elms breathes a (temporary?) sigh of relief.

This is the closest I could find. A 2003 All-Star Game ball signed by Vanessa Carlton (she sang the National Anthem).

Default Interesting

The two great Orioles that played their entire career with the same team were both named Cal! ( Calvin Ripken JR 21 years with the Birds) and Brooks Calbert Robinson 23 years with the same team a major league record at the time and maybe still is) . This kind of correlates to my other offbeat noticing that the two greatest Japanese homerun kings of all time ( by many peoples estimations) were named Oh and Oh-tani. Maybe there is something in those names......
