Default 3500 T206 coming to market

Does this eventually start to weigh on values? Wonder how many more cards are out there hiding in attics?

I don't think this qualifies as an attic find. The article mentions that the Wagner was last sold in 1995. This sounds like a long time collector finally cashing out. I think there are many collectors who started in the 1970's who are now getting up to the age where it is time to divest their collections so that their beneficiaries don't have to go through the pain of selling off items which in most cases they probably have little knowledge of in terms of value...

I guess the big question going forward will be: Will the number of new/existing collectors be enough to carry the value as additional vintage product comes on the market through estates, etc...?

Desiderata

You are a child of the universe,
no less than the trees and the stars;
you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you,
no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams,
it is still a beautiful world.
Strive to be happy.

With this group and the group that Saco found it should have some impact on the T206 market. Unfortunately, this kind of stuff rarely happens with Old Judges. Since virtually every Old Judge pose (maybe every pose) is scarcer than the T206 Wagner, I guess I should not be surprised.

I am not the biggest T206 guy either but I understand the popularity of collecting the set and why that is big news here .

Part of this find was at National. The first Wagner I've ever seen in person.

I don't think it'll affect values except for extremely low pop backs. Just too many t206 collectors so they'll absorb this collection easily.

This sounds like someone's collection to me and not a find.

Default Gary....

+1

T206 is so popular, and will always be in the future......this find won't even put a dent in any pricing......the "monster" is just too big.....and the collector base will stay solid, or, I predict, increase in the future....

remember the large drum find?? still didn't even affect drums....

remember....people will collect these even if they are not into baseball ....Wagner will ensure this sets perpetuation for generations to come...

remember.......future generations will inherit the cards....and even if they are not into baseball, lets face it, the cards are just a cool part of history....

by the way...I WANT THE CHES. WAGZ!!(or any)

I think the find is a good thing for T206 collectors because it will bring more attention to the set.

I agree it's more about positive publicity. Why it's labeled the "Chesapeake Find" and not "Chesapeake Collection" I don't understand either. Wasn't it an inheritance?

Does the fact that they named it a "find" increase the value like the corresponding premium for The Dmitri Young Collection?

Default Effect on values

My guess is very little to no effect at all. We all know there are a lot of T206 cards out there. This is not all that surprising. If there is an effect it is rather short term.

Default 3500

I wouldn't think 3500 cards would have much of an impact on the market. Previous discussions on this board have estimated that several hundred thousand T206's still survive. 3500 cards is probably well under 1% of the total T206's available. There are over 8000 on eBay right now.
