Default Fatima Team cards - where do they "rank" in hobby appeal?

I'd love to hear from collectors of the Fatima Team cards (or maybe direct to previous treads that may have already covered this topic if this is a repeat request.)

I've seen them here and there and have always found them to be nice looking vintage team cards - the images are so clear and clean.

I'm a HOF player collector and worry that I won't be able to afford a playing-days Honus Wagner that I really like. I am wondering whether the Pirates Fatima Card might be an affordable alternative (at least until I win the lottery) to buying a solo Wagner card.

Thoughts or observations of these cards? Looking forward to hearing from you...

Agreed, undervalued. I have 2 and they have been a great budget alternative to get a Shoeless Joe/Lajoie, and Thorpe/McGraw/Mathewson/Marquard.

I think they are under valued and i think they would be a good pickup for him and other players whose cards are becoming to expensive or scarce (like Joe Jackson)

They are scarce but come up often for sale (there are 35 on ebay right now of all different teams. and 5 of them are for Pittsburg and Wagner) The key of course is the price ebay is often over priced.

Good Luck

A psa 1 Pittsburgh a few ago used to be 100.
Now a psa 1 is 1,000.

I think they are overvalued at this point. Did people just figure out there is a quarter inch photo of wagner?

I like them quite a bit, due in part because they are original photo's and not litho prints or reproductions. There are team scarcities...never figured out if this was deliberate or not. However, I managed to collect all of the teams.

I agree, I like the fact that they are actual photos. Every thread needs a card.

I love this one with the "Mascot" (top row right)

Not a name, not a mascot name just "Mascot" I wonder how much that paid and how he put it on his resume

Absolutely agreed they are very underrated. Still can't believe I don't have one yet.

Loved the challenge of collecting this set. FYI, for me the 3 rarities were as follows: NY Americans, followed by St Louis Americans and then the Boston Nationals. There is a mid tier of scarce cards (Detroit and a few others).

Thanks you all... I am buying my first one from a fellow Net54 member and can now officially check off "Wagner" on my HOF list (even if it just a tiny little image of him!

I may also look into buying a Fatima cigarette tin as a complimentary item to display alongside my new card - does anyone know if these are very expensive?

The Fatima team cards are great. Great way to get a card of Thorpe, Mathewson, Cobb et al.

If someone wants to give me a very good deal on an undervalued Senators Fatima card, I am all yours.

I have looked at a number of examples and all are way out of my reach.
I do have the reprint set and that is gonna just have to do.

Cheers,

Butch

I agree these are usually hard to find, but I did actually see quite a few dealers that had some at The National. I probably saw 25-30 T200s there. I wasn't paying close attention to see if they were mainly the more common ones or if any of the rarer teams were there as well.

Love these cards. I actually have two complete sets, one I bought that is raw, and then i saw one of the highest graded registry sets (SGC) for auction and bought that one, too, since i know how tough these are in high grade. Thought they were not only cool but undervalued.

At one time i wanted to collect the really awesome T200 premiums, but have not seen one in years after a bunch were auctioned about a decade or more ago and was outbid on all the ones i bid for. I did pick this one up in the Halper Sotheby’s auction, one of my favorite pieces with WaJo the highlight.

I also posted my highest graded one, of the Chicago Americans in NM. Don’t let the picture size fool you, the Washington premium is 20 x larger.
